I go away and things just go all to hell.

While I generally approve of people who desire to date me finding someone else to occupy them instead, I would prefer if the ones that I actually *like* would not go forth and date people who suck.

For one thing, it interferes with my general wish that people would do things that make them happy - when you're dating somebody that sucks, it's only a matter of time until you're miserable, and you can't tell somebody "Hey, your new girlfriend? She sucks. She's going to make you unhappy" - they don't listen, and then they just get mad at you.

For another thing, it makes me think that perhaps, if they want to date people that suck, and they also at some point wanted to date me, that I might also suck, and just not know that I suck.

Grumble grumble.

You do not suck.

Well, she may, but that's beside the point.

Seriously. In the neo-80s sense of the word, you don't suck. Relationships and pheremones and genitalia are weird, fucked-up things with no sense of decorum, propriety, or logic.

Godden know that I've done some half-baked things over the years out of love or lust or some misguided martyr complex. Your friend's choice of someone who baffles you in no way reflects on your worth as a partner, or even as a friend; each situation is nearly completely different.

Unless your name is Elektra and you've got a geas on you to only do things with men of certain genetic character, that is.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
You do not suck.

Generally, people are not guided by anything resembling logic when chosing a person to date. They are guided mostly by their procreative urge. Meaning, pheromones and hormones get all mixed up in a rush, someone decides they'd like to fuck someone, and then the brain makes every excuse possible for that person to make it alright to be "dating" them, whether they are cool, nasty, or somewhere in between.

This person who wanted to date you, thought you were attractive, on a base level somewhere. That's a good thing.

Never underestimate, however, the ease with which a person succombs to the idea that they'd like to fuck someone and that it makes a person worth spending time with. Sometimes you just have to stand back and watch the train wreck, wishing fervently (if the person is someone you do care about ) that it didn't have to happen...

Unfortunately...humans only tend to learn lessons the hard way...by stepping on their own dick, so to speak.

I'm a fairly easily found human, if your local. I'll be at Heartland in the Spring, I'm sure, and of course next year's Renaissance Festival (if for no other reason it will be the Madam's Silver Jubilee...and that's just too damn funny to pass up!).

I am local, actually. I just Don't Get Out Enough, that's all. Hope to see you at Faire, if not sooner! My husband owes me a corset...

Like the bulk of my self-poking-at, the "Perhaps I suck" statement was made with tongue firmly inserted in cheek.

I'm (of course) much more concerned about my friend than about myself.
I hope he'll jump the train before the aforementioned collision occurs, but we'll see.

[identity profile] diermuid.livejournal.com 2003-12-16 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, speaking from a guy standpoint, the concept of you sucking or not is irrelevant. The only thing you need point out, is whether or not you swallow.

You know, I was just thinking yesterday that I was getting less innuendo than I'm used to lately, and was starting to suffer from a deficiency. Thanks, guys.

So, can I get a piece of your pie this weekend? ;-)

I was thinking I'd bring you some pie for the holiday - what kind of pie you like, baby?

The only thing you need point out, is whether or not you swallow.

But if the lady doth not suck, then verily, will it not be impossible for her to swallow?

Some suck, some blow, some just wiggle their head and drool a lot. Christian America does not have a book of instructions like India does. ;-)

but you don't suck. well you might suck but not in a bad way.

I was going to write something very nice and possibly even sweet, but, after noticing the tone of the other responses, it would probably be, in its own strange way, inappropriate. I'd write something equally ribald, but this is, after all, my work computer.

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2003-12-17 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, hon. You're the nicest embodiment of evil I've ever met.

By the way, have you seen the Dudley Do-Right movie? Not that I would recommend it on general principle (it was fairly awful), but Snidely Whiplash reminded me of Malvito in bits... "I'm the Bad Guy! If he's wearing black now, who knows what other fun bad guy stuff he's been up to?"

[identity profile] malvito.livejournal.com 2003-12-17 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
I must admit to having missed that one. Didn't strike me as something to go out of my way for, though, I suppose, the Snidely Whiplash would be worth a rental ... it's nicer when I can pay a buck or two and fast-forward through the dross.

(Now that I think of it, I can't think of whether or not I added a movie featuring Brendon Fraser to my collection until I picked up QUIET AMERICAN ...)

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2003-12-17 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
There are very good reasons for that. (Like virtually every film he's ever been in.)
I'm not sure I'd pay to rent this one, but if you can catch it on television, you might be amused. (I happened to see the second half of it at my parents' house... they watch TV *all the time*. It's very unnerving.)

[identity profile] chainwoman.livejournal.com 2003-12-17 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, 46 comments.... I must say that I have never seen that before... You must suck well. ;-) Well, I guess this makes 47. WooT! WooT!
