The content-free parade continues! This is a little game that [livejournal.com profile] 8elements posted and I responded to, so she's insisting I post as well. Also, she associates me with Magneto. Words cannot express how completely excellent I find that.

Anyway. Here's the game:

You comment here, and I will:
1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something - a song, a color, a photo, etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Write you a short poem (probably) (you should be aware that it will probably be rude.)
5. Associate you with a character.
6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7. Make some sort of commentary about your LJ icons.

UNRELATED BONUS MATERIAL: Did you know that the ADF has a Vice-Archdruid? You know, not quite Arch- material. That's way funnier to me than it probably ought to be.

EDIT: This whole thing might take a while. Poetry, as you probably know if you've EVER EFFING MET ME, is not a thing that I do easily or well. It doesn't quite make blood spring from my forehead, but pretty close. Still, the challenge is compelling. So post, I'll get to you, but not necessarily today.

1. I initially friended you for your commentary on the Greek gods. I've come to really enjoy your writing, and the conversations you're having on the journal.

2. I associate you with the phrase "Don't click the internet!". This may be because that's often what I say after clicking links in your journal. :)

3. I like the way you can translate something complex and abstract into something clear, readable, and concrete. I also like your affection for odd music videos (enjoyed the Dionysus selection you harvested yesterday).

4. [I'm trying to decide between filthy limerick and something more stately and uplifting. If you're lucky, you might get both. Watch this space.]

5. Mostly you remind me of Dionysus. But I'm thinking that probably doesn't count. And other than that, you mostly remind me of historical people. So I don't know.

6. When you went to Kemetic Orthodoxy for a time, what was it about that faith that appealed to you? ALSO: A long time ago you talked about writing an epic about the Olympians and US history. In it you mentioned the story of how the spirit of the Mississippi fell in love with Jeff Buckley's voice and drowned him. Are you ever going to write that? And if you aren't going to write it, would you mind if I wrote something on a similar theme (not the whole thing, just that bit)?

7. You don't have nearly enough icons. Of course, it is always easy to pick your posts out of the list...

1. Thank you so much. I love the gods, and can think of nothing I'd rather do than talk about them.
2. Ha! Wise woman. Though, sadly, I haven't had much time to track down the bizarre and perverted corners of teh intarwebz because of all the research and writing I've been doing. Damn, I've got a reputation to uphold - perhaps I should take a break to track more down. :D
3.a Well, when I started out there was absolutely nothing out there geared towards beginners. I found it extremely difficult to make sense of some of this stuff, and I figured that if there's going to be any future for our faith, that material needs to be made widely available. Not everyone should have to be a scholar and historian to worship the gods. Our religion should be open to everyone - truckers, artists, housewives, joe schmo off the street - not just a core elite. Frankly, I find those people's experiences of the gods much more interesting than someone who only gets it out of books and such.
3.b. Oh, there's so much great music, and one thing that I absolutely love about livejournal is that the people here have such different backgrounds and therefore can expose me to songs and musicians I never would have found on my own!
4. Combining the two can be accomplished, for instance, my paian to Dionysos as the god of fuck. However, if one must choose between the two, I'd always go with the filthy limerick.
5. That is a huge honor!
6.a There were two things. First, the Egyptian gods had begun popping into my life, which was quite confusing for someone who was a strict culturally-specific Hellenic recon at the time. HoN allowed me to learn more about them, and also to take part in a thriving community. Also, at the time things were a little different in the Hellenic community. There was a decidedly anti-mystic and anti-magic stance in the community, and any time that you even hinted at such practices or experiences, you got a buttload of flak from the hardliners. HoN, by its nature, was more open to such things, and it helped immensely to have my experiences and beliefs taken seriously. Thankfully, that's changed a lot since then, due to the work of a number of folks who showed that you can be a mystic without becoming some brain-dead, doe-eyed fluffer, and that a magical practice need not be antithetical to a strictly exoteric one.
6.b. By all means! The chances that I'll ever get back to working on that piece are very, very slim indeed. And if I should happen to finish the mountain of projects I've already got before me and find the inspiration to work on that, it doesn't mean that I'll produce the definitive version. I would be really interested to see how you work with the idea and what you can produce from it. So, yes, PLEASE take the idea and run with it!!!!
7. LOL I know. My lj is pretty boring in that regard. Partly it's because I have zero artistic talent, and I'm too lazy to seek out prettier icons. On the other hand, if you came up with some for me, I'd definitely start using them!

Oh, yes, limerick it is:

Who is this wine-maddened beast
Who leaves no desire unreleased?
Be he monster or troll?
Be he werewolf or gnoll?
No, much worse than that: he's a priest.

:)

That is, hands down, the best thing anyone has ever written about me.
