Shiny things post
Dec. 6th, 2010 09:49 amI have some new shiny things in my Etsy shop. Also, after years of using etsy, I've recently realized that they have a little flash widget that shows off your stuff on other sites. So, here's a preview:

Shiny things!
Oct. 7th, 2009 11:56 amSince I'm home with the sickness, I figured I'd do something useful with my day. I updated my Etsy shop with the new shinies. Anybody want to buy shinies? I'll wipe them down with sanitizer before I send them to you. :)

Jewelry for sale
Jan. 22nd, 2009 03:34 pmI'm getting ready to post some new stuff to my Etsy shop. I figured I'd give you guys a chance to look at it first, that way I can save on listing fees and you can save on shipping if you find something you can't live without. (It also saves me the trouble of trying to write a compelling Etsy description.)
Take a look over here, and let me know if there's anything you're interested in, will you?
(Also note, the new camera does a much better job with macro shots than the old one ever did. I am pleased with this turn of events.)

News of the Shiny Things
May. 27th, 2008 10:54 amI'm dropping my registration for this show in the mail today:

If you are interested in looking at my shiny things (and a lot of other cool stuff), please come by and see us June 6th, in the Crossroads. You were going to be up there for First Fridays anyway, right? :)
The nigh-unreadable text on these says "320 Southwest Blvd, Crossroads District, KC MO. First Fridays, June 6th 7p.m. - 9 p.m. For a list of participating artists, visit www.kcetsy.com."
Also, I have business cards for the jewelry thing coming in any day now. Business cards! With a web address for my shop on them!! This has never happened to me before. It's practically like I know what I'm doing.

Drunken photography!
Mar. 17th, 2008 10:19 pmIn the spirit of "pics or it didn't happen", here's the industrial fetish piece I was talking about earlier. Clicking on the cut implies that you agree to pretend these are better pictures. Also, of course, you can click on the pic to see the bigger version.

Your input requested (Jewelry business)
Feb. 5th, 2008 10:40 amThe Hot Nurse asked me to donate a piece of jewelry to the silent auction her son's school is having as a fund-raiser. I have no problem in the world doing that, of course, but she also said, "You know, you should include your business card so it's like advertising." This is also undeniably true. However. I do not have a business card. I do not have a business card because I do not have anything to direct people to via a business card. I need a website.
There are a couple of things that block me from having a website. I'm pretty sure I could put one together, even if was just a shop on a larger site, or something I put together with somebody's e-commerce toolkit. However. In order to do that, I'd need good photographs of my work. I do not seem to be capable of producing good photographs of my work. I think it would help me to have a light-box and some sort of display platform, which I could probably build. It would also help me to use a tripod. I think I have one somewhere. But that's all I know about. If some of you other picture-taking folks could point me to some tips on taking good up-close photos of shiny things, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I would need a name for said website, and the jewelry business it would allegedly represent. Any suggestions there would also be appreciated. I've been using 'Entropic Trinity' but, of course, it's just my work, and the entropic part perhaps suggests that the things are likely to explode or disintegrate at any moment, which is not really what I want to convey.
So, what do you think?

The show went... poorly.
Promised: 70+ vendors, heavily advertised, venue convenient and easy to get to, all vendors required to sell only handmade stuff.
Actual: 25 vendors, 5 of whom didn't show up. Heavily advertised by direct mail to retirement communities and a radio spot on the soft rock station. Venue easy to get to if you have been there before. I was next to a guy who was selling As Seen On TV Taco Stands.

On the other hand
May. 7th, 2007 11:21 amItems accomplished over the weekend:
* Booked room for Texas trip this weekend.
* Made 8-9 new jewelry pieces on Saturday, between "waiting for
triadruid to get home and
kittenpants to get up from napping" time, "craft and movie" time at
capriciouslass' place, and "waiting for
agrnmn to get back from picking up
saffronhare at the airport" time. I like most of these pieces, which probably means they'll never sell, but hey. Every once in a while, I should get to make pieces I like.
* Managed Wild Hare's Beltane rite on Friday.
* Washed laundry.
... Yeah, that's about it. But this weekend, we get to go to Dallas, which is pretty exciting because it's not Kansas City, and teach EiR, which is pretty exciting because EiR is fun, and do the Sunday service at PVUUC, which is pretty exciting because that means that
kittenpants and I will have then shared a pulpit with Randy Milholland, of Something Positive fame. (They have also had a lot of other folks come in to do their service, but he strikes me as the least likely, so therefore will represent the genre.)
We will try to focus on that, and not think about the fact that before we can road-trip, I have to do a job fair on Thursday. Blech.

Jewelry and things
Mar. 12th, 2007 08:49 amSaturday, I packed up my stuff and went out to the Snake Saturday festival. They have a small arts and crafts show, and it was very inexpensive and easy to get into, so I figured I'd haul a table and some jewelry out there and see if I could make any money... It didn't go as well as I had hoped.
( And here's why. ) ( I'm willing to think it could be me... )
Anyway, the other thing is that I continue to have a large stock of jewelry available. I'm starting to put it online on Etsy, which is pretty cheap and easy to work with. I'm hoping that it's as easy to buy from as it is to list on, but I really don't know. There are only a few pieces up now, but I will be adding more as days go by. If you're interested, take a look at my shop. And feel free to let me know if it's my sense of aesthetics that's gone awry, or the rest of the world's. Knowing the answer to that question would save me a lot of trouble in the long run.
