Um. Cows?

We're watching Firefly, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] orcjohn. At some point in the series, the Serenity is full of cows. It is a spaceship. Full of cows. No one here seems to grasp how intrinsically funny this is.

Not like strapped-in cows, either. Just cows, milling about in the hold. They have horns. The comic potential is limitless.

I just saw that episode. The cows are so...incongruous. I hadn't thought about the fact that they aren't strapped in. Hee.

I never suspected that it might be cows, and then, suddenly, COWS! It was brilliant. Of course, cows are inherently funny to me all by themselves, so...

I did figure it would be either cows or horses because of the whole Western thing the show has going on. Cows! In space! Heh.

Cows are evil and will lead to my demise. I love cows.

Why will they lead to your demise?

I mean, I think cows are the only hoofed mammal that doesn't have it in for me...

They fascinate me, not sure why. I mean just cows in the field, doing cow stuff, mesmerizes me. There are cow herds along the road when I drive the sons to school. I get to watching the cows and not the road. I almost rear ended a woman who had stopped, had her signal on, but the cows had been tagged and were bobbing along with yellow earrings and I got interested and saw her sort of last minute.
Cows obviously have cast an evil spell on me.

I got the comic brilliance there. You should watch it with me instead.

Then you should come over, oh battered and beaten one.

I ought to. And bring my copy of I Sailed to Tahiti with an All-Girl Crew, as I suspect it could be well-enjoyed there.

Alas, while my family has been traveling through Kansas City the past few days, I was unable to fly in this year. *sighs*

I really liked the idea

of horses and cows in space. After all, unlike machinery, they don't need spare parts, they're easy to maintain, and, best of all, they reproduce themselves!

Given the idea that the outer worlds are basically being terraformed and then people dropped on them, it makes a whole lot of sense to me that they'd use animals.

I didn't think it was a bad idea to have cows in space. I just think it's a bad idea not to secure them in some fashion. I mean, I grasp that the Serenity has some sort of artificial gravity, but if that were to go, and all those cows went floating loose, bumping into things, what a mess that would be!

Now, I do think it's a bad idea to have chopsticks in space. But that's a totally different story.
