I just had a new hole put in my head last month - for years the only extraneous holes I've had were a pair of earlobe piercings quite in the expected and conservative place. Last month, however, I made an attempt to show my grandmother that ear piercing was no big deal, and she should go ahead and have hers done, since she's been thinking about it and all that. So I got a stud put in the cartilage at the top of my left ear - I like it, because/even though it emphasizes the slight pointiness of my ear. I was intending to replace the stud with a hoop when it healed up. However, I just tried to take the stud out for the first time, and clean all the way around and inside the hole, and I can't get the back off. It's stuck. I'm a little alarmed by this - I've been cleaning around the post, but I'd really like to be able to actually clean out the inside of the hole....
The worst thing about this is that my grandmother still wouldn't get her ears done, so the whole thing failed to achieve the desired result.

Taking them things apart for the first time is a bitch... I have some jewelry pliers at the house if you wish.

I still remember trying to get Mercedes's & my earrings out the first time (we went together)... royal bitchorama. And trying to use hand tools on the lobes of your extremely troubled 3 year old princess is just plain heartwrenching.

And you know, sometimes you just need a man to go to work on you with a set of pliers.... (That was not a thing I ever thought I would say...)
I'm gonna try and do it again when I get to the house. If it doesn't come off at that point, tools may be required. Thanks :)

Ugh, thanks... now I have images of speculums floating in my head.

First step is getting the front to spin in the back. once you have that, then it is just the 40 pounds of pressure required to get that back off the first time. And of course there is no easy way to apply 40 pounds to a little bitty stud with enough control to keep it from yanking the crap out of you (and your freshly pierced flesh)when the back finally does give.

Starter earrings are in serious need of some re-engineering. ;-)

I'm saying. I can turn it, and I can rock the back back and forth a bit - I think that's how you're supposed to get the thing off anyway. I'll keep working with it.

I had no idea that this was going to be such a freaking crisis. Sheesh.

Blerg. That sounds painful. Have you tried anything like butter or any other lubricant to get the earring out?

Nah - it doesn't hurt. The earring isn't stuck in my ear, it's just that the back is stuck onto the earring. The actual post is movable (not like when you first get pierced, and you have to rotate the post the first time - now *that* hurts).

yeah, like i said at lunch. i've always found it best to have someone help get it off. btw, found my tights and my briefs to go over my tights for a bit over 11 bucks at sears. the dance store had nothing for me.
