Taking them things apart for the first time is a bitch... I have some jewelry pliers at the house if you wish.
I still remember trying to get Mercedes's & my earrings out the first time (we went together)... royal bitchorama. And trying to use hand tools on the lobes of your extremely troubled 3 year old princess is just plain heartwrenching.
