Notes from Ritualists meeting last night: I think that you know you've lost your grip on things when you say things to a group of neo-pagans like, "Please excuse my use of the word 'priests' to denote a group that includes both priests and priestesses. The English language is constructed so that when a group consists of both genders, the speaker uses the masculine form of the plural to describe them. Actually, I'm going to do it anyway, so it really doesn't matter if you excuse it or not."

I really tried not to be cranky about things that came up in the meeting last night, but when you have a bunch of people running around using 'priestess' as a verb, it can be difficult. But I think I only had two tantrums, so that's a definite improvement over some of the meetings of the past. (The other one was about fire - specifically, the need to include fire as part of a 'fire festival' ritual.... This was received by someone, possibly [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare with a friendly, "There you go, getting all orthodox on us again", so I think that people are overall not offended by these outbursts.)

I think being in the role of facilitator for the meetings is making me less confrontational, so that's probably good. On the other hand, the fact that I'm confrontational at all while in that role is perhaps giving added weight to my crankiness, as if it were somehow 'official' crankiness, which is, of course, not the case.

Bleh. It's a work in progress, this "being sweet" thing.

Angora, y0. Nic wears cashmere, I wear angora. I know there were a lot of pettable women in black sweaters last night, but do try to keep us all straight. (Well, not straight, necessarily - you know what I mean.) The difference between an angora sweater and any other garment in the world is of manifest and supreme importance to me, and I request that you and other people respect that.

And if you lot get to be unruly, etc. then I do too. So I guess I won't apologize for being rude at the meeting after all.

Bunnies and goats, chicks and cubs...

Hey, look, I can keep the creatures straight when I see them - and I can keep you all straight (or at least distinct) when I see you - asking me to do both when I'm confronted with such lovely distractions (i.e., you all) is just a bit much, eh?

But if you want, I'll pay less attention to you and more to your clothing. Better?

Only necessary for angora sweaters. The angora sweater as a concept is much more worthy of notice than I am. All hail the bunny.

Done and done.

It should probably be noted at this point that I am not wearing an angora sweater today, so you are free to ignore my clothing, and worship me, if you so choose :-P

(And you thought yesterday's comment threads were weird...)

Angora and Cashmere

Yes, last night's sweater was cashmere. But, thanks to friends like you, I also have an angora sweater. It's white, so that would have perpetuated the whole Pillar of Mercy/Pillar of Severity dichotomy that folks around us find so compelling. Maybe that's why we're so often suprised by our synchronicities and dazzling differences in equal measure...

Angora and Cashmere and Mohair, oh my!

So Angora is bunny, and Cashmere is goat, but Mohair is from the Angora...goat? WTF?

I take it all back; women do not have the clothing thing any easier, it's just a different circle of hell.
