Oddly enough, all of today's questions come from conversations [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and I had while working out yesterday.

[Poll #1055348]

I'm sure I would've had that one time at band camp if I ever went to a band camp. I did have that one time at other kinds of camp.

I'm up for it...

I haven't built anything cool since I made my technomancer's wand. We should collaborate on something nifty.

Oh, and don't blow yourself up...without me.

Yale~

I'm not counting the two disasterous weeks of band where I mangled a clarinet and made it sound worse than a cat in heat as having played an instrument.

Assuming I'm the person who wants to build something stupid? :-P

That's a whole different poll. :)

Nah, I think you have to have thought yourself to have some degree of proficiency with or commitment to the instrument. Did you run screaming from the clarinet?

The band teacher suggested I try out for drama club. So I guess the clarinet ran away from me:)

I'm thinking the last question should really be "check all that apply".

I'd like to see a collaborative project between [livejournal.com profile] zylch, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants, and yourself. I have a feeling it would end up

  • working

  • being powered pneumatically from steam generated by a pocket nuclear pile

  • end up aesthetically pleasing while still clanking loudly and shooting off jets of fumes

  • be entirely impossibly to discern function from merely observing form

That would be the perfect machine, really.

Also, care to share your band camp story? ;)

"Possibly dangerous" to whom?

If the builder is only endangering himself with his electrical hijinks, that's fine with me. Applaud his creativity and remind him to wear rubber-soled shoes.

But if at any point he is likely to electrocute his whole neighborhood or set fire to the state of California, he's not allowed to play with those toys anymore.

for the record, on the last question, my opinion is actually three answers, funded, encouraged, and watched carefully.

also, the one time at band camp, should have a where was this experience question

my answer, is actually church camp...

Not something stupid. Something that is teh nifty. This does not have to be something that is useful or functional, just interesting and entertaining. When I typed interesting just now, it came out as inertesting, which my mind immediately defined as something inert or inactive that is interesting.

We should totally build something inertesting. Yup.

Want to build a mood enhancing stereo? I been tinking what would happen if you uilt a device that sent out a signal that would encourage a persons brain to move towards certian freqencies of operation, like right between alpha and beta waves where most people seem to feel like mystical experences are occuring.

Easier to alter the tracks. I actually had some software for producing white noise in various frequencies keyed to different brainwave states at one time, and the intention to mix some meditation-y tracks, but I never actually did it (bad me!). Maybe I still have that stuff, I'll have to look.
