I was assuming it was a miniature poodle drawn out of proportion. The standard poodle is actually not nearly so much of a pain in the ass.

Eh. Poodles are all right. It's owners who make them all foofy that need to be beaten with sticks. They started out in the working dog class originally. I found a poodle in a ditch one time, and he was totally butch. If we got him groomed and they painted his nails, he'd hide under the sofa in shame until we took it off. His name was Toulouse, but we often called him "Spike." Best dog EVAR.

.... which isn't to say I don't like them. Play with them, then send them home to their family. Kinda like kids.

I suppose it depends on your personal definition of "high maintenance," doesn't it? Yes, dogs require a great deal more attention and interaction than, say, cats. But I would define cats as much higher-maintenace...because, in my head, "high maintenance" is all about being difficult to please. Dogs are not difficult to please.

Though in my experience cats are happy as long as they have food.
