triadruid has graciously agreed to make me a superhero icon. (Or at least has intimated that he might do such a thing, and I think I can talk him into actually doing it.)
His question, though, was what extant comic-book superhero would be an accurate avatar for me? Anybody got an opinion on that? Supervillains are also acceptable. :)
Well I don't know you as well as some of your F-List, but to me you would be a cross between...

and Dr.Fate
Of course i'm a bit of DC fan so my opinion is a little biased I guess. Though to be honest I kinda picture you as being the love child between Emma Frost & John Constantine.
Incidentally i've been suckered convinced to participate in a Mutants & Masterminds campaign. Though the premise is that we're all non costumed supervillains. It's supposed to be Reservoir Dogs meets The Secret Six.
I don't know enough of the comic genre to even begin to give you anything but trite responses like Mystique from X-men or Harlequin (or perhaps, Harvey Dent) from Batman.
I had a bet on with myself regarding how many comments would be in this thread before somebody pegged me as someone from Watchmen. :) Nite Owl, though, was not who I was expecting. Still, I do like a blimp.
I am a bad, bad geek. :( The only actual comic books I have actually read (and currently still have, *somewhere*) are Star Trek ones (both OS and TNG), which I suppose are worth double geek points, or something. However, I am definately on my way to becoming Mistress of Wikipedia. :)
In other news, homemade pie. Mmmmmm pie. Helps take the sting out of hours of back-breaking labor, ya know. :)
I asked the question primarily because the 'action' in Watchmen takes place when the main characters are all sort of past their prime and out of the business. Nite Owl is a character who it's pretty easy to be like and respect, but he (like most of the Watchmen crew) is also fairly pathetic. The story is absolutely heart-breaking -- these are people who were once sort of champions of right and justice, beloved by the people and in the middle of things, who are now middle-aged, outmoded, and unwanted by the people they protected. They're inspired by a previous Golden Age, but their time is more like a garbage age. It's a little like the superhero version of the Island of Misfit Toys. There's a particularly wrenching scene with Nite Owl and the Silk Spectre -- the intimation is that Dreiburg (the Nite Owl) is impotent as his normal everyday self, and has to put on the suit and bust bad guys in order to get it up. They're all so damaged, you have to love them.
As it happens, the supervillain/anti-hero my subconscious informs me that I sometimes am is anti-dinosaur. Also of note, the first X-Men comic I ever owned had the Scarlet Witch in it. So there's that.

Date: 2006-10-27 08:30 pm (UTC)Good calls, all. I very much enjoy the concept of being a character who is the love child of Frost and Constantine, particularly.

Re: The possibilities seem endless to me, but here are a few..
Date: 2006-10-27 08:21 pm (UTC)I've read the Watchmen. I wasn't sure who Nite-Owl II was though (I forget if the first Nite Owl was the one from the 40s that the original adopted).
By the way I don't know if I can vote again but have you considered ABC's Promethea?
Re: The possibilities seem endless to me, but here are a few..
Date: 2006-10-27 08:28 pm (UTC)Also, yeah, Promethea. Not the Marjorie or the Anna Prometheas though. Probably either Barbara or Bill.
I am obviously going to lose geek cred on this.
