I wish I had a basement! We can't because of our water table issues, we don't even bury our dead in the ground.

Couch! Try craigs list or freecycle, they sometimes have nice stuff on those things

How are you fairing post-Katrina btw? I have seen you post on others journals but had no idea you were down there. I am involoved in emergency preparedness and response up here in KC and we all have had a keen interest in the efforts down there.

We mobilized a large contingient of personel up here in KC for deployement in Mississippi for almost 6 months after landfall.

We were lucky. Our house is in the 20% of NOLA that didn't flood, on the westbank. We spent 8 1/2 months in Memphis because of Jim's job. As to how we are doing, depends on the day you ask. If I go across the river and look at the houses I feel like crying, if I talk about us I feel a cross between being blessed and survivor's guilt. Being on the westbank is different, over here we had a lot of wind damage, but are mostly intact. Thank you for asking :)

Glad you faired better than most. I do want to say that I am glad you recognize the dicotomy of feeling blessed that nothing worse happened to you and survivors guilt that nothing worse happened to you. I can only hope that you have someone who you can talk to that helps with that.

We have some water issues too, which is why the wall needs fixed. Nothing like you guys' water table fun, though. Actually, when I moved here, I was astonished at the prospect of a basement, we don't have them in Florida either, for the same reason.

Also, yay freecycle!
