Apparently, there's an airshow at the downtown "airport" this weekend. This means that yesterday and today, we in the Northland have been treated to afternoons filled with the rush and whoosh of the Blue Angels passing and looping overhead. Now, you can say what you like about the militaristic bent of the nation, about our belligerent foreign policy, and so on, an you can be as big a fluffy bunny moonbat peacenik as you like, but you cannot tell me that there is a human being alive that looks at military aircraft (in general, and the Hornets in particular) that does not, in some small corner of his soul, go, "Ooooooooooh. Shiiiiiiiny", and perhaps drool a bit.

Also, the interweb informs me that at this airshow, there will be a fellow with a mockup Zero that he cobbled out of several other planes, and a handful of folks flying, of all things, biplanes. They're hawking frozen pizza, but still. Biplanes.

I think I had a purpose to this entry aside from "I like planes", but shit -- I like planes.

I had a kid tell me today that they were flying yesterday through KCK, and a plane went sideways between the houses on his street. He was full of *ooh* about it.

The penis-substituting bastards keep buzzing the CRC.

It would be one thing if I knew they were coming and could go outside and drool, but it's another thing when I'm trying to work.

Mmmmmmm. Planes. You know which plane *really* gets me all tingly? The B-2 Spirit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-2_Spirit). Ummmmmmmmm.

You do need an F'ing space suit to fly that thing at max altitude. Not just an atmosphere suit, mind you, but one with an integral liquid heating and cooling system, waste handling system and more fire resistance than a NASCAR driver's getup. That, I tell you, is one hell of a jet.

The Aurora, replacement for the Blackbird was supposed to be even shinier. Here is the best rendition I could find:

Ah, but how do you feel about snakes on them?

Um. Sure, snakes. Why not?

Say what you will...

Pretty? Possibly not. But I love the A-10 Warthog.

Funny, that, coming from an Ex-tanker.

Also: I don't recall your expressing much admiration for the jets that would fly over your childhood home & wake you with a cacophony not entirely unlike the End of the World.

If you say so. It's possible that I was grumpy for a few years during high school. When I was 8-12, though, I had a bedroom that was covered in aircraft the way most chicks' bedrooms would be covered in pop stars at that age.

Me TOO!!! I could name every plane the military was currently using. I did my first "persuasive speech" in 6th grade about why some plane shoud be phased out over another plane. How funny.

I have been gone to Hays, KS *ALL WEEK* and do you know what the first thing that [livejournal.com profile] cerrunos tells me?

"Did you know there is supposedly an Air Show in town? I know, I saw the Blue Angels flying over the store I was working in!"

He *so* badly wants to go. I don't even know where it is...
