For the haircut may I be so intrusive as to recommend a shaved, or nearly shaved, head? I think you could carry it off well!

I think about doing that all the time. I have a persistent fear, however, that my head is a funny shape. Unfortunately, that's one of those things that you don't know about until you shave your head, you know?

Makes phrenology easier.

Funny person. Funny shaped head. Hmm. I sink I see ein connectishun.

Quantum dandelion? No matter how many of them you dig up, in some parallel Universe your lawn is still full of them.

Quantum dandelions: One minute your yard is free of them, the next, they're all there in full bloom. They pop into existence fully formed and ready to spread.

Also, I think it is in a Discworld book that there is a practitioner of phrenological therapy -- if the bumps on your head indicate personality traits, then you must be able to develop new personality traits by acquiring new bumps. Want to be an artist? I'll need the number 7 hammer...

Hmm, sounds vaguely like Granny Weatherwax, but I'm not sure.

No, if it's actually in Discworld it's a bit character in Ankh-Morpork that you see briefly in connection with either the assassins or the thieves. Perhaps an assassin or a thief runs through their shop?

I don't remember. Perhaps I made it up. That happens every now and again.

Ah, of course, ask Google, Google points me to Wikipedia...

Terry Pratchett, in his Discworld series of books, describes the practice of Retrophrenology as the practice of altering someone's character by giving them bumps on the head. You can go into a shop in Ankh-Morpork and order an artistic temperament with a tendency to introspection. What you actually get is hit on the head with a large hammer, but it keeps the money in circulation and gives people something to do.

Wikipedia is full of useful information! Thank you for clearing that up for me. I often have trouble remembering if things really did happen, or if they hadn't actually happened, but I thought they should really hard.

But if they're quantum dandelions, then they aren't REALLY in the yard until somebody observes them there, no? Until then, there is only some finite probability that any given spot in the yard does, or does not, have a quantum dandelion in it ... it is the act of observation that collapses the probability wave to a single state ...

AUGH!

I always thought my head was the wrong shape too. Its not. Do it! Screw up the courage and just do it! Thats the only way you'll find out. If you don't like it, it'll growback.

Well, there is also that little matter of whether or not [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and [livejournal.com profile] triadruid are into having a bald girlfriend...
