Completely unimportant, but I'm curious

Back at the old job, I had almost everyone trained to call me Kimberly instead of Kim. Here at the new job, the thing is that they all pick one, and then sort of choke on it, and quickly ask, "Do you go by Kim or Kimberly?". I've been telling them to pick the one they like best. I mean, if it works with my pronouns, it ought to also work with my name, right?
On the one hand, my last name is also one syllable and also begins with a strong plosive, so saying my name together sounds very terse and unpleasant if the first name is Kim. On the other hand, Kim is a hell of a lot more gender-neutral than Kimberly.

EDIT:
adammaker is the King of the Helpful People. Just so you know.
