Back at the old job, I had almost everyone trained to call me Kimberly instead of Kim. Here at the new job, the thing is that they all pick one, and then sort of choke on it, and quickly ask, "Do you go by Kim or Kimberly?". I've been telling them to pick the one they like best. I mean, if it works with my pronouns, it ought to also work with my name, right?

On the one hand, my last name is also one syllable and also begins with a strong plosive, so saying my name together sounds very terse and unpleasant if the first name is Kim. On the other hand, Kim is a hell of a lot more gender-neutral than Kimberly.

Some third thing

I have found, being a person with a very long name reduced to something that, to a conservitive person, would mortify me, that people are willing to call you anything that you ask of them, within reason.

For example. I have a friend. His formal name is Robert Jason C*****. He goes by Jason. Another example is my former boss. Her name is Sharon Gay H***. She goes by Gay.

I go by Liz in Oregon, Elizabeth in Arkansas and am *trying* to get non-coworkers up here to call me Lizzy.

I like Kimberly. It is a good name. Kim is ok if your lazy. :-) If you want to keep it real but different, go with the middle one (what ever it may be). It can't be worse than Gay...

Nah, my middle name is Nicole. And we already have one of those.

I continue to be remiss in calling you Lizzy. :( I will try to be better at that, though.

To be expected. It has been Liz for years... and that works too. :-P

Nine times out of ten, I prefer un-nicked names. That said, I'm much more likely to respond without stabbing you in the face if you call me "Jen," rather than "Jenny." For other people, I tend to call them what they prefer to be called, except for Lizzy, which I also forget. I was under the impression that you prefer Kimberly, and avoided "Kim" in the same way I do "Jenny."

And yes, our younger daughter goes by a nickname. That was pre-emptive as a preferrable choice to some of the worse nicknames her full name can produce. :-)

I didn't realize that her name wasn't her name. I thought that was what it was. What's it short for?

I have a friend who goes by Margie... I prefer your Maggie to Margie...

Which was my original point. :-)

In general, my preference is to call somebody by their full first name, unless they tell me otherwise. Then, I try to remember to address them in the way they tell me they prefer. (shrug) So, if you want to be called Loquat Koalabomb, I'll do my best to keep up. :)

Ditto that, though I think I'd have a hard time remembering Loquat Koalabomb. I can't even remember Lizzy...

As for my answer...

You were fond of that at one time. Not terribly work-Kosher for most jobs, though.

Wait. There was a point in time when somebody called me 'Angel Tits'? Like, regularly? That seems so unlikely.

That was when we were paling around with our friend Lucas, the Booty Bitch. And it was at least going on for a few days, if not regularly. Honestly, (and no offense intended here) I doubt there's much to remember about those days except my uncontrollable jealousy and his very squishy couch.

Ah, Booty. I'd like to see Booty again, so I could kick him in the nuts and give him a hug. Order is negotiable.

He did have a hell of a couch, though, yeah. And I don't remember you being jealous.
