Help?

I'm wondering if someone can point me somewhere useful.
Here's the deal:

I'm looking to do more creative writing. The brain is rusty and underused. I joined [livejournal.com profile] great_write_way, which provides a challenge once a week for very very short fiction. I like this. I think this is very, very cool. However, I would like to have some call to write more than once a week. And I am perfectly capable of coming up with my own prompts, but I want to put things out for comment/critique, and I don't want to do it here in my journal. I am cruel, sometimes, but I am not that cruel. I like you all too much to subject you to that.

Can anybody point me to a group (LJ communities are the best, since I'm already here) that they participate in or have seen and enjoy? I have been looking around, but since I really don't do fanfic (I'm not very fannish, or at least not involved enough in that sort of thing to be able to write convincing fanfic [not that 'convincing' seems to be important]), I haven't found much.

I did, however, find Jesus/Judas slash. But that's the sort of thing I have come to expect from the Internet.

Mercy Buckets.

EDIT: And if [livejournal.com profile] fionnabhar and I started our own writing community, would you come and play?

I take it you'ev already hack-and-slashed your way through the communities with interest 'writing'? I know there's a lot of them, but surely you're not the only one to have this question, and yet be a quality writer, on LJ.

I say this from the loving place of someone who doesn't necessarily want to see you start something new that you don't have to, unless you want to...

On the other hand, some of us who would be interested in forming an audience for a smaller, start-up community might not be prepared to give our attention to a larger extant community.

A fine point.

I have done. There's a lot of hack and a lot of slash to be had.

Granted, I haven't been through all of them. But 90% seem to be devoted to a fandom or to fandom in general, which I don't want, and I got sort of tired of wading through it all. And I know that there are a fair number of writers on my friends-list, so I thought I'd ask.

The gods know I am lazy and don't want to do any work I don't have to.

If you build it, they may come

As long as the last sentance still applies, I'm in favor of it.

I never expected TOTC to take off like it did, either, so you may be 'on' to something...

I'm 80% sure that's one of those things that you could engrave on my tombstone now and it would still be true the day I died. I am lazy like whoa.

I'll mod it if that helps. Never done that before, but I figure we need to do it by invite. Ought to be pretty self-managing that way. I think.

TOTC works pretty well, despite its controversial nature, by just putting posts on my friends page where I'll see them. The one ass-hat we had just made me institute a 'screen posts by non-members' setting, which I can show FNS how to set up if you like. Then I just use the ban function liberally when needed, which is very infrequently. I expect if you craft a good info page, you'll have even less problems than I.

Crap. I should go home. *whap self*

Built it, sent you an invite. Wanna take a look around before I start inviting more people in?

Also, I'm with [livejournal.com profile] triadruid. Let's start out open, with the stated option to boot people who make trouble, and see what happens. If it starts to get out of hand, we can always lock it down later. I just want to get a decent membership at first.

I didn't get an invite to anything that I know of. Did I miss something obvious?
