Wild Hare's Lammas went off within reasonable expectations of well last night. I only flubbed one word (which was a pretty important word, but still, only one word), and the omens were pretty good. I didn't make my oath from Beltane and had to give up another pair of earrings, which makes me completely out of silver earrings, and these were my favorite. Oh well, that will teach me to let my mouth write checks my ass can't cash, I suppose. The deities invoked were all of the Norse persuasion, which was exciting, as I rarely deal with those powers, but apparently some of the ones I was calling showed up despite the fact that they don't owe me anything. I suppose that means now I owe them something. Anyway, nice rain that wasn't at all in the forecast occurred, and we got a lovely rainbow. Quoth [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants, "Well, you called Thor and Heimdall. What did you expect? I mean, Heimdall's only really got two signs, and the rainbow's the good one." So that's all right.

Then, we proceded to eat seventeen tons of bread with honey butter and pub cheese. If you ever get a chance to try [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants' braided herb bread, you should count yourself a lucky mortal indeed.

But most importantly, [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn and [livejournal.com profile] druidevo picked me up by the ankles and hung me for a minute, which was enough to straighten out my hips. I feel much better today, so massive thank you to those guys. It's good to have tall friends. Not only can they pick you up and dangle you, they also can see what's on the top shelf!

And then, because [livejournal.com profile] 8elements tagged me,
In no particular order:
1. Spicy food! I hear that ingestion of hot peppers cause the body to produce endorphins. It seems to be true, and I do like the endorphins. I mean, a good curry is not actually better than sex, but it's better than a sharp stick in the eye, or, gods forbid, running.
2. Touching people. Inclusive of sex, but not exclusive to sex. I communicate largely through touch, at least with people I like, providing that I think they won't mind that. It makes me question whether or not I'm actually an introvert, since my best method of recharging is petting someone I love.
3. Costuming. Apparently I didn't get to play dress up enough as a child, or seomthing. Any event that requires costuming just sort of perks me up, whether I'm the one in costume or not. DragonCon, for example. The programming is all good, but what I really go for is to see people's outfits.
4. Dogs. Who doesn't like dogs? I mean, I'm not the dog show sort, or anything. But dogs, especially large mutt dogs with unlikely combinations of characteristics, cheer me up immeasurably.
5. Implementing stupid/clever ideas immediately. That's one of the things I love the most about [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and [livejournal.com profile] triadruid, and some of the other assorted friends. Some people get a clever idea and go, "Yeah, we should do that someday", and then never do anything about it. They have clever ideas and go "We should do that RIGHT NOW", and then proceed to make the thing happen. I love that.

I'm tagging everybody for this. If you want to talk about it, talk about it. Information may *want* to be free, but enthusiasm *demands* it. :)

It's good to hear your hips are feeling better.

Bread love, never ever will low carb enter my house:)

And, of course, the favorite current event of the day at the feast of bread was that Atkins had earlier in the day filed for bankruptcy.

I wasn't surprised. After he died there were suddenly low carb products everywhere with the name, and I don't think the quality was there. Of course, I'm not a judge as I don't care for the low carb pastas and breads, etc.

Me either. Most of them had a consistency more or less similar to an adobe brick.
I did do the Atkins diet thing when I was younger, but was strictly a real-food eater on it -- I didn't care much for any of the "I am a low carb substitute for something yummy you can't have" products.

I've done the diet food thing, I'd rather have half a cup of the real thing than a cup of diet. Ideally I'd like to have a whole cup of the whole thing and a great metabolism.

Yeah. I settled for eating what I want and being fat. If you can either be cute or happy, I'll take happy any day.

Oh... I'm fat too, but Jim seems to like my pear shaped butt lol.

Don't you also use the phrase 'pear shaped' to denote something that's gone wrong?

I got that up from watching to much BBCAmerica, rather like Madonna's pretentious fake accent:) When something goes wrong on "changing rooms" or "Ground force" they say it all went terribly pear shaped. It amused me so I picked it up and now I use it without even thinking.

Yep. I'm hoping that's enough to take up the slack.

Honestly.....

As someone who eats low-carb substitutes to get a break from the dead animal parade, they were out there and like that before he died. I noticed their re-organization (Chap 11 means they're not dead) stated they're focusing on what they do well, which is the shakes and bars. I agree with that assessment. Their pasta and cereal stunk. I bought other manufacturers' products for those (mainly Dreamfields pasta, which I would serve to a high-carber and dare them to tell the difference).

I think some were out, it just seemed suddenly there were products everywhere, the Atkins name on everything. Then there was the competition from other low carb diets like South Beach.

I never did the shakes. The bars, while nasty at first, seemed very compelling later on in the diet experience. Much like my favorite beverage while doing the total low-carb trip, which was diet ginger ale and heavy cream. It sounds foul now, but at the time, I was very pleased with it.

I don't think I've ever had the Dreamfields pasta. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen it in the stores here. Just another bit of supporting evidence for my theory that you guys on the coast have better food options than we midwesterners.

Yes, but only one word is flubbed.

Yeah. But that would have worked just as well. I mean, why not 'necktie'? I mean, I hear that every civilization has a 'gin and tonic'...

You're a civilization all to yourself? They'll treat you for that, you know.

Sure, you say they'll treat me, but when it's time to pay the tab, suddenly I'm the only one who remembered his wallet.

Yay, bread. Yay, Guinness Stout as sacramental beverage. Yay, rainbows. Yay, people sitting around being silly. Yay, leaving before [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare had her mean beer. Yay, piety. Yay for things being either open or shut, one or the other.

Date: 2005-08-02 06:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com
Heh. I'm used to things being "open" at the end from Gaia... oh well. We fixed it.
[livejournal.com profile] saffronhare never did get to the mean beer, by the way.

Date: 2005-08-02 06:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com
I'm pretty sure if we were to have enough sacramental beverage, we could argue ourselves around to the proposition that, metaphysically, it is possible for "open" and "shut" to mean the same thing.

Date: 2005-08-02 06:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com
I've seen us argue. I have full faith and confidence that we could do it without sacramental beverage, if we had to.

well i already did my five but i'll do five more.

1. kissing. gawds how i love to kiss. a good kiss can almost be better than sex (almost).

2. shopping, it doesn't matter where or what for.

3. trying new foods.

4. my granddaughter, she has to be the sweetest, best baby in the whole world and i am not saying that because she is my granddaughter. she really IS a good baby. coming from me, that means a lot.

5. singing-it really doesn't matter where or what i am singing, i just love to sing. when i am sad, angry, upset, etc...it always seems to make me feel better.
