Seeking some observational data here. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid seems to think I lack self-esteem, and that this lack is holding me back from total world domination. I disagree. I tell him it's lack of ambition.

So if you could, please take a moment and help us decide this issue.

I cast my votes ("7" and "1" in that order) based on evaluating your ambition relative to my own. I think you have considerably more self-esteem than I do, and I can often be an arrogant egotist. As a confirmed ambitionless pothead, I tend to find folks with ambition rather alien, but I don't get the alien vibe from you, so there you go.

That's cuz' you don't see her at home, where she will say something self-disparaging approximately every 10-15 minutes.

Kimberly, I gave you a 3 in ambition because you are more likely to start a project than take a compliment. If you had higher self esteem, I think you would be more inclined to tackle larger, more meaningful projects/jobs/etc. I think the lack of ambition is a *symptom* of your low self-esteem.

Okay, so the whole family needs to work on this issue. As a pot, I'm only calling it like I see it, dear kettle.

my vote was 8 and 4 in that order....though am not around to hear comments on a daily basis...and if that's so I'd agree with kittenpants that ultimatly the low ambition would be a symptom of low self esteem - my .02 for what it's worth! xoxo C

Well, yes, I'm only judging from our online interactions, in which I tend to be much more self-disparaging. Nevertheless, my inexperience in that regard will be corrected in a couple months, and then you and [livejournal.com profile] triadruid can decide for yourself who has the higher self-esteem.

I take it if you had any objections, you would have already voiced them?

Are you planning on being objectionable?

Well, many people would think that inviting oneself to another's birthday party was itself an objectionable act.

Date: 2005-06-14 08:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] greektoomey.livejournal.com
Besides which, you've already told me that I am welcome, which I had assumed meant that your other thirds were aware of my impending visit.

When [livejournal.com profile] triadruid asked if I was going to be coming out your way, I felt it would be wise to dispense with the assumptions and make certain that the welcome comes from all three of you.

Feel free to call it paranoia, if you like.

just because you're paranoid...

Chalk it more up to me needing to have more RAM installed, than any objection to you coming to visit. Not only did F[livejournal.com profile] featherynscale probably mention your visit, but we're a semi-autonomous democratic collective... people are free to invite people to their own party, after all. :)

To be sure. If I was merely inviting myself to the birthday party, I would not seek ratification.

However, I was not merely inviting myself to the party, I was presuming to invite myself to be your houseguest for the weekend, which I think you'll agree is somewhat different.

Furthermore, I rarely intend to be objectionable, but that does not stop many people from regarding me as objectionable.

Your self-esteem seems solid, perhaps solid enough to be mildly intimidating to someone semi-neurotic like me who only knows you in a limited electronic context.

And I think ambition is overrated.

To me you are a mix I do believe you doubt your own self-worth a bit You are aware of your skills in the market place and I agree you have no great ambition to rule your world I do not see that as a problem Except that I wish more of the current monarchy had your ethics and you rising to the top would be good for the world
I do wish you were more aware of how wbonderful your spirit is and were more confident about your appeal It is rather outstanding

Faulty metrics, my old nemesis, we meet again

*claps* Well done, your psych training has served you well... you've asked completely different questions from what I posited. What I was saying was that your lack of self-esteem contributes more to your lack of World Domination than your lack of ambition does, not that it was lower on an absolute scale. Weighted scoring and all that, don't you know...

I voted you higher on ambition than self-esteem for similar reason to [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants, when just looking at the raw personality data.
From: [identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com
Faulty is such a strong word... I merely expanded on the question. Also, you squish my fun.

You're awfully cute when you get in these moods. Wanna wrestle?

I submit that you contracted the question, to the point of irrelevancy to the original supposition. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out a way to render it in a poll, and it wouldn't have reached your target audience, anyway. As independent data, it's certainly useful... just not so much as fodder for our debate.

And I'd love to wrestle, but I have a meeting to go to.

I honestly don't know how to answer this one. Self-Esteem and Ambition are words attached to cultural standards that are more linear and um, relativistic(?) than I think you think...I think.

For starters: When you speak of yourself as a construct existing withing a multiplicity of constructs, then esteem of self over other parts of the construct just doesn't fit. Also: ambition (in my mind, anyway) carries the implication that there's some sort of end-game to be achieved, a worldview which you usually reject.

Baffled, the bunny is. Shutting up now.

I've always thought you had high self-esteem. If you don't, you hide it very well. :) And it's always seemed to me you had grand ambitions, just not - er - commonly aspired to ones. You know, not being about the mythical American DreamTM with the white picket fence and all that. Why be normal? comes to mind as a catchphrase. And that takes more self-esteem and ambition and dammit courage than falling in line with the aforementioned mythical American DreamTM.

And yes, you could rule the world, if you wanted to. Do you want to? is the question that comes to my mind. :D

Of course, you're the one with the psychologist degree, and I haven't seen you more than once a year since what...2001? So I could be totally off base here. *shrug* Hope I've helped more than I've confused.

Fearfully.
At some point in the past, I was referred to as 'a sugar-coated dwarf for Satan', which I found to be a worthy concept but technically incorrect in a number of ways... hence the alteration.
