Doom. I have not had biscuits in a Bob Evans in Kentucky, nor in any other establishment in Kentucky. But the biscuits at the Bob Evans on Metcalf, they're not bad. And the gravy, though the wrong color for sausage gravy, is also pretty tasty. I mean, mostly it's all about that they've figured out that biscuits and gravy and fried potatos go together, and they serve them as a meal without any of that other stuff (eggs, pancakes, etc) that just gets in the way.
I agree about the grits at Cracker Barrel, though. In fact, I really don't always want the grits at Cracker Barrel in the south, either. I like mine a little less like Tasty Wheat™, which is to say more like grits and less like library paste. And seriously, a little salt and pepper couldn't hurt.
It's not that big a deal. It's brown, indicating that the liquid in it is water or broth, rather than white, indicating that the liquid in it is milk. In my world, breakfast gravy should be white.
Breakfast bitchery
