There's something about sleeping nine or ten hours, and then waking up to find that a large check has made its way into one's bank account to make one feel empowered to make positive change.

So. Anybody want to help tear down and rebuild a wooden fence sometime in the next month or so?

This is the plan: Currently, EHQ has a lovely but somewhat damaged board fence around two of the four sides of its backyard. This fence is made up of six-inch boards mounted flush to each other on railings made out of 2x4s. We propose to take the boards off the current fence, reset them with four-inch gaps between them, build a rail and post system on the unfenced bits of the yard, and put up the spare boards on the other side. This should allow us to fence the yard without buying 300 feet of fence-staves, which are expensive.

This should keep the 7 1/2" wide dog on his side of the fence, while still admitting squirrels, rabbits, and other things that the dog likes to chase and sometimes catch and eat. It should also be a way to put up a dog-containing fence at minimal cost. It will also require a gate, but we have yet to figure out how to work that, so suggestions are welcome.

I don't know - I mean, I know you lot tear things down, but we need it to remain in a useable fashion when it comes down. [livejournal.com profile] zylch was particularly disappointed about this.

Hmm. That does complicate things. We might have to exercise Moderation in that. We'll have to get back to you.

Darn! Needing to keep it useable does take all of the fun out of it!

I find myself needing to do the dog pen/fence thing also. Spastic puppy needs a more permanent enclosure, but my yard would be a nightmare to fence all the way around. I think she's going to get a more moderately sized pen down closer to the creek by the time we're done.

The offer of our unused pen still stands.

Terribly dissapointed, but not unwilling to help anyway. Besides, my Bag O' Electronic Destruction is still over there.
