In case anyone was wondering
May. 5th, 2003 09:24 amThe hedonism parade was, in fact, the Best Game Ever (tm)! Although we did start quite a bit later than we expected due to the whole Mark-setting-self-on-fire thing and attendant panic and desire to leave (causing those of us who remained behind at the ritual to take a much larger share of clean-up than would otherwise have been necessary), and some people did cancel out due to weather-related concerns (there's something about tornado warnings that makes people want to stay at home in the basement, I dunno), we still had a decent crowd, somewhere between 15 and 20.
So we descended upon the plaza in our uber-fabulous dress, handing out flowers and chocolates, waving and cheering, singing and generally carrying on. A high point of the evening involved Shane leaving a sign reading "Jesus got laid too" on the back of a particularly menacing and expensive black SUV with a praying Calvin sticker on the back. Photographic evidence was obtained.
We got generally good reaction - a lot of people asked what we were celebrating, and we ended up explaining the concept of Beltane quite a bit. We covered any number of innocent bystanders in glitter, and admonished several cranky-looking individuals to smile, enjoy life, get laid, and other helpful things.
I'll be covered in glitter for weeks. I ate quite a bit of it as well, but the container says it's non-toxic, so I suppose that's okay.
So, since this one went so well, we're looking for an excuse to do another one some time. Shane says do it New Orleans style - "It's Tuesday, let's have a parade!" I think this is a fine plan.
