Today's experiment:
What burns when you touch it to an easy-light charcoal incense burner briquette?

Results:

Lights on fire:
- A match

Doesn't light on fire:
- Raffia
- Tissue paper (2-ply)
- Tissue paper (1-ply)
- Newsprint
- A q-tip
- Vodka (80 proof)
- Whisky (86 proof)
- Rubbing alcohol (at this point, we gave up on the alcohol line of pursuit)
- [livejournal.com profile] triadruid's beard

Special bonus finding: Winter sucks, snow sucks, and I am tired of being cold.

So the answer to the question is: a match, and only a match, burns when touched to an easy-light charcoal incense burner briquette.

Though incense is conspicuously absent from the list.

Come to think of it, so are fingers.

So was this an experiment an attempt to stay warm?

Incense was tried later, and the result was much the same: smolders/glows like incense should, but there's no initial flare of flame on the tip.

It was an attempt to figure out visually non-obvious way to light a fire.
[livejournal.com profile] triadruid mentions the incense results already, and we have no results for fingers, as [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants strongly discouraged us from picking up live coals of any sort. Once again, science is thwarted by good sense.
