I got more than ten answers to my question about the origin of the phrase "balls to the wall", but most of them are good/entertaining/way fucking wrong, so they're all listed below.

To play in this part, choose the answer you like the best, and comment with that number. You get one point for picking the "correct" answer, and one point for each vote your answer recieves. (One person did give me the "correct" answer, but also gave me a secondary explanation, so I'm including both of their answers in the list, and they will get points for votes on the secondary answer, but not the "correct" one. Correct is in quotes because etymology is a tricky beast.)

No points for voting for your own answer.

EDIT: Voting is closed tomorrow morning circa 9 a.m.

Yesterday kind of sucked. It rained out Gaia's Beltane. So far, Beltane has been cancelled for hail, tornados, and now, flash-flooding all over the metro. Woo.

This is not the end of the greatest hits list of yesterday, though, because you also have to take into account the fact that our roof is leaking again (per N. Stephenson, it is always leaky, but at the moment it is also leaking, which is different). When the roof leaks, it leaks into the smoke detectors. When there was water in the smoke detector on the top floor of the house, it makes the smoke detector go off without cease, which sucks. So two years ago or so, we dismantled that smoke detector.

So it was sort of a surprise when the two smoke detectors on the lower level of the house went off in ear-bursting discord at 8 a.m. yesterday. We figure that the water triggered the top one, and then leaked through the system down to the bottom ones. So we dismantled them, too. Now, with any luck, we'll have a fire.

Items accomplished over the weekend:
* Booked room for Texas trip this weekend.
* Made 8-9 new jewelry pieces on Saturday, between "waiting for [livejournal.com profile] triadruid to get home and [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants to get up from napping" time, "craft and movie" time at [livejournal.com profile] capriciouslass' place, and "waiting for [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn to get back from picking up [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare at the airport" time. I like most of these pieces, which probably means they'll never sell, but hey. Every once in a while, I should get to make pieces I like.
* Managed Wild Hare's Beltane rite on Friday.
* Washed laundry.

... Yeah, that's about it. But this weekend, we get to go to Dallas, which is pretty exciting because it's not Kansas City, and teach EiR, which is pretty exciting because EiR is fun, and do the Sunday service at PVUUC, which is pretty exciting because that means that [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants and I will have then shared a pulpit with Randy Milholland, of Something Positive fame. (They have also had a lot of other folks come in to do their service, but he strikes me as the least likely, so therefore will represent the genre.)

We will try to focus on that, and not think about the fact that before we can road-trip, I have to do a job fair on Thursday. Blech.

This came to me in a dream while I was watching the ninja myths episode of Mythbusters at [livejournal.com profile] capriciouslass's place on Saturday. I thought to myself, "Self, why don't we have a pirate/ninja tournament of some sort? Why not laser tag?"

So, are you in?

When I die, [livejournal.com profile] lexpendragon gets my brain. I have already informed him that he may have to scrape it off a windshield. He is down with that.

The rest of you LJ-peeps are now in charge of guarding my brain when I kick the proverbial bucket, and keeping any brain-vultures, zombies, mad scientists and other disreputable types from stealing it before [livejournal.com profile] lexpendragon gets there. Can I count on you for that?
