Got a call last night from Emperor Kristoff, who is safely in Boulder and has started grad school. He is currently living on someone's couch, but will shortly be moving in with Cheri in a rent-paying, roommate sort of arrangement. He promises to send me an address when he has one. The big news, which he waits until two-thirds of the way through the call to tell me, is that he and Steffi are having a baby. They are thrilled with this turn of events, so congratulations are in order. The baby (as yet nameless and of indeterminate gender - I don't know when you get to tell these things, but I think they're not to that stage yet) is due in March. In days past, I'd have been worried about this. I don't worry about Kristoff any more though. He can take care of it. And Steffi is the best thing for him ever.

Still, it was a bit of a shock, and I had to retreat from the world for a bit, and watched Benny and Joon, which is, now that I consider it, a fairly inane film with a plotline that doesn't bear a lot of analysis (especially as the core romance of the film would be statuatory rape in some states) - but there you go. It's an inane film with some really great visual bits, especially if you dig physical comedy, which I do.

This was necessary for temporary funk removal, so I did at least go to bed in a good mood. But then,

I dreamed I was driving on Holmes Road, going south, in the southbound lanes, like a reasonable human being, but that every few blocks, there was someone going north in my lane, staring at me like I was an idiot. At first I thought I was in the wrong lane, but no. I was where I needed to be, so I kept going. Then I wondered why all of these people were threatening to head-on me. At some point, though, it became clear that they were in fact crossing over from the properly northbound lanes into the far southbound lane just because that was where I was, then crossing back after they'd passed me.
