Got a call last night from Emperor Kristoff, who is safely in Boulder and has started grad school. He is currently living on someone's couch, but will shortly be moving in with Cheri in a rent-paying, roommate sort of arrangement. He promises to send me an address when he has one. The big news, which he waits until two-thirds of the way through the call to tell me, is that he and Steffi are having a baby. They are thrilled with this turn of events, so congratulations are in order. The baby (as yet nameless and of indeterminate gender - I don't know when you get to tell these things, but I think they're not to that stage yet) is due in March. In days past, I'd have been worried about this. I don't worry about Kristoff any more though. He can take care of it. And Steffi is the best thing for him ever.

Still, it was a bit of a shock, and I had to retreat from the world for a bit, and watched Benny and Joon, which is, now that I consider it, a fairly inane film with a plotline that doesn't bear a lot of analysis (especially as the core romance of the film would be statuatory rape in some states) - but there you go. It's an inane film with some really great visual bits, especially if you dig physical comedy, which I do.

This was necessary for temporary funk removal, so I did at least go to bed in a good mood. But then,

I dreamed I was driving on Holmes Road, going south, in the southbound lanes, like a reasonable human being, but that every few blocks, there was someone going north in my lane, staring at me like I was an idiot. At first I thought I was in the wrong lane, but no. I was where I needed to be, so I kept going. Then I wondered why all of these people were threatening to head-on me. At some point, though, it became clear that they were in fact crossing over from the properly northbound lanes into the far southbound lane just because that was where I was, then crossing back after they'd passed me.

Well, duh. Makes perfect sense to me.

Glad to hear that evolved people are pleased to be having babies...and that other evolved people are pleased not to be having babies. Nice arrangement, that.

If Kristoff is in CO, living on a couch with somebody who is not Steffi, then where is Steffi? Are they pleased to be having a baby together, but not together in the partner kind of way? Need a framework, as if it were my business.

Framework

Kristoff has had to relocate to Boulder for school, and is temporarily living on a couch before he can temporarily live with Cheri, who is a friend and fellow drummer. Steffi is currently in California somewhere where she has a fabulous job with fabulous health insurance that she doesn't want to abandon until she can go on maternity leave, at which point she'll move to Boulder, and they'll presumably move in together. They are together in the partner sense, just living apart for logistical reasons. Make more sense?

It always makes me slightly nervous to hear about funk removal, either temporary or (even worse) permanent....

Sorry man, no disrespect meant. You can have all the funk.

You're in no danger, anyway, as you are capital-F Funk, which is different.

No disrespect taken, though it always helps to know when I'm in no danger.

Now give up the funk.

I had to go around them. For the most part, I had plenty of time to do so, but they never moved for me at all.
