Films to see

As it turns out, I live in a cultural void when it comes to movies. I had the experience of not being allowed to watch live-action film throughout most of my pre-majority years, and I've never really caught up. There is a ridiculous number of films that by all rights, I ought to have seen, which I actually haven't, and for whatever reason, if I should chance to go into a video rental establishment, I immediately forget what they all are.

To remedy this, I'd like to start a to-watch list of films I'd like to remember to rent, borrow, or see on the big screen when they come out. I know I'm not going to make 50 new movies this year like chainwoman, but I'm going to try for 20. I've seen six already, those being 28 Days Later, Hellboy, Casablanca, The Last Temptation of Christ, Boondock Saints and Chicago. It probably says something about my taste in film that I enjoyed the first five just about equally (which was a lot), and didn't care much at all for the last.

Anyway, here's the list. If you could be so kind as to recommend a film to add to the list, I'd be grateful. (I tend to like the sort of films with monsters, superheroes, pirates and explosions better than the sort of films with none of those elements, but I'm pretty flexible on that.)

- Unbreakable
- Big Trouble in Little China (I've seen half of it, but could stand to see the whole thing)

- Memento (another entry from the "rented but didn't watch" list)

I have a lot of them that I haven't managed to see for one reason or another. I haven't been nearly so organized as to make a list though. I just note when people say, "you haven't seen THAT?"
We'll just have to institute movie nights so that we can all work through our backlog.

I'm in favor of movie night. It helps my attention span to be in a room with other people interested in the film. I just about can't watch movies by myself - I tend to wander off and do other things.

I have that wandering problem too. When I'm working around the house, I tend to put a movie that I like in for background noise. For some reason I get more done that way.

I was planning to go to see Troy after the zoo concert on Saturday. Since I see it on your list there, would you and a number of other people like to make an event of it? Also, did the decision ever get made as to whether there would be flaunt?

I've been too busy to plan flaunt. Movie sounds good though. I'm pretty sure we'll be at the zoo thing.

There could still be a flaunt, but someone other than me needs to organize it.

well, since we've been rather boisterous lately with the season, perhaps a more laid-back post-movie, post-concert celebration would be in order? I was thinking just being laid back and chatting or some such.
