Happy Valentine's Day, my dear. Miss you and the others. Must admit that I was curious how you would react to Valentine's Day, since some posts wuld lead me to think that you would find the day antithetical to your sentiments, but I'm glad to see a positive reaction.

I'm sort of indifferent to the whole Valentine's Day thing, but eh. My antipathy toward the day is more than balanced out by my desire to celebrate anything for any reason.

I'm still trying to figure out when the Pillar of Mercy would provide comfort and saftey...and when it would provide a quick kill. Blood is a real bitch to get out of these white robes, man. Wish it weren't mine sometimes.

It's a rough go, really. Severity is only difficult for those of us on the beginning end of the individuation process, when we still have to remind ourselves that we can stand up and have opinions, and stuff. Mercy is hard for *everybody*, even nice people, because of what you mention - there's a component to it that includes the cut. Also, Mercy is limitless, where Severity is limiting... Next year should be exciting for all of us, if we're still wanting to play this game.

Good points all. I think this process is just uncomfortable enough to tell me I'm on the right track. You know -- hard enough that it's a challenge, but not so hard that I worry about my psyche dripping out my ears every day (once a week is enough, thank you). At the beginning, I mistakenly figured it was all about being nice. Silly rabbit. It's also about compassionate application of force and a great deal of empathy. A difficult road for someone who's spent so much of her life being rewarded for being the toughest sumbitch around.

It also helps to have a partner. I suspect next year will be tough too, as I learn to do what needs doing without giving undue weight to whether my actions will undermine my reputation, etc.

Yay.

Yep. The fun continues. I think that you'll find, when you move into this phase, that there are some things that get cut away -- so far, though, none of the things I have lost have been the essential things, though, and I suspect that this is a sort of purification.
