So I'm getting ready to move out - I'm looking forward to moving to a place where my rent won't eat 45% of my income, looking forward to getting to where I can finally start digging my way out of debt. All is well.

Then I come home last night and there's a note taped to my door from the apartment complex. They say I didn't give them enough notice of my moving, and therefore, I owe them another month's rent plus fees for staying on beyond my lease. And, to boot, there's a checklist on the back of all the other stuff they can charge me for if they feel like it. So now, I get to pay rent in two places for a month. Of course, I don't have the money for that.

So I had to borrow $700 from my mom, which I'll have to pay back in $100-200 increments each month. So, instead of getting to a place financially where my debts can start to go away, I get $700 more debt, and I won't be able to make any serious credit payments until like December, instead of starting to pay things down in July. Arg.

The thing that really pisses me off about this deal is that I tried to extend my lease for a month before deciding to cram all my moving into the end of June and they told me I couldn't do that.

The other thing is that they told me they replace all the carpet in the units every two years. I've lived in the apartment for two years, and the carpet was certainly not new when I moved in. My dog has done some damage to it since then, so it certainly does need to be replaced now. They say on their paperwork that if the carpet is stained or torn, I'll be charged cost of replacement - I certainly hope that they will not charge me to replace the carpet when a) they have gotten at least one more year out of it than they said they would, and b) I've paid almost $1000 in security deposits, pet deposits, and pet rent over the course of my living there - the cheap-o carpet in the unit couldn't possibly run anywhere near that to replace.

Bleh. Bleh bleh.
