Hurrah, tonight is the Ball, and then, after that, no one will have to hear anything more about it except for how totally effing brilliant it was. Hurrah!

That is until it turns out to be so unique and noteworthy that they talk about it non stop until the next one. I've seen that happen at parties. Usually that was because there was an orgy, though, and I suspect you took steps to make sure that an orgy doesn't break out.
