Weekend update
Aug. 25th, 2003 12:51 pmGot talked out of doing laundry to go to Friday Night Supper Club on Friday. We went to Tasso's, which is always ... er ... exciting. They have really decent food and everything, but the environment is just sort of off-putting to me. There's always music, usually by a guitarist who seems to be channelling Neil Diamond, which is unnerving. He sort of banters back and forth with people eating, and that's a little much for me too. Then they have a belly dancer, Zaina, who I am prepared to believe is the cutest person alive. She's like a cartoon. She's really why we go there, I think.
In between the Neil Diamond and the belly-dancing, we played Kemetic Unorthodox Rat Screw, which is rapidly becoming the official pastime of our set. In the course of the game, Jeff, god of Biscuits, managed to show both of his nipples to the table, and the waitress, who happened to be passing by at the moment.
When the belly dance bit started,
kittenpants joined the group of girls Zaina was instructing in the art of belly dance, which would not have been terribly unusual except that she was wearing a sarong as a dress, which was not terribly secure. I tried to get David to bet on whether or not she'd come out of it, but he refused to take it. Quality, that one.
Following that, we saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch at Just Off Broadway. Wow, that was a good show - Hedwig (Justin van Pelt) was amazing - he's got a wonderful voice and he looks fabulous in heels. I was particularly impressed with the number and efficiency of the costume changes in the show - when Hedwig becomes Tommy Gnosis, and when we see Yitzhak's transition into his drag persona, they do this in under a minute - and Yitzhak loses a full beard and about ten pounds of eyeliner. Must find out how they did that.
Saturday we did Pagan Pride Day, which went better than expected - we had 36 people at the closing ritual, which, while not a large percentage of the total attendance, was not bad. Most people seem to want to stay to the end of the Silent Auction and then get their stuff and leave. Met some cool new people, Courtney and Ethan, and Justin, who all came out to the pub with us after, and then to Gaia on Sunday for the Dionysia.
Sunday was a blast, but I felt like hell afterwards, possibly the effects of running around draped in rayon in the heat, accompanied by a fair amount of wine and an unimaginable amount of grapes. Still, a good time was had by all, and I got to go to bed really early, so I'm feeling a bit better today.
Still not feeling great - last week I had a cough and some nasal yuckiness, which has now become a sore throat accompanied by general crappiness. :( But that's okay. I'll probably live.

Date: 2003-08-25 01:25 pm (UTC)I will recycle, I will paint houses for the elderly, I will make sure I get Fiona down for her nap at 5:00PM on Sundays, I will fix computers for the ungeeks, I will wear a grass skirt and pocket protector just to win my wife some sand toys... and I will do all this without batting an eye. But I am not real keen on praying to anybody, nor am I up for organized reflection.
Whether it is allah, the earth mother, or Clytemnestra that we are honoring... it still seems churchy. Some people are into that, others aren't. I think many aren't.
