In reaction to Rabbit Hole Day, [livejournal.com profile] ceruleanst says, "Fuckabunchathat. Go *DO* something surreal, instead of just making it up." As a card-carrying Erisian, I support that. Of course, I support the making it up, too.

So anyway. This weekend, I went to Iowa with [livejournal.com profile] zylch, to talk about fund-raising and church stewardship in the UUA. I think that fulfills [livejournal.com profile] ceruleanst's requirements. *boggle* On the one hand, we told them all about the God Auction as a fund-raiser, and fully half of them thought it was a good idea (although they were initially suspicious of the mention of gods). On the other, the painfully earnest quotient was high, and we were, of course, the youngest people in the room by at least 15 years. Mildly trippy on both counts.

But I'm back now. Did you miss me?

Hooray for fund-raising! Actually, very little of the training was about fund-raising, most of it was about how to get your own people to pledge more, and how to manage capital campaigns and so on.

I don't mind trying to get a reasonable amount of money out of people that aren't our members, though, and I have a couple of ideas on new ways to do that. The big one should wait until next year, but I think we could do some of the little ones this year...

Reading this gave me flash backs to the small congregations Iowa trip that kittenpants, a pregnant womanofsalt and her hubby and I made several years back. FLAMING DEATH!

FLAMING DEATH!

We didn't have any flaming death. All we had was pickup truck ballet on some black ice directly in front of us. First it was in the right lane, then made a wide arc into the left lane, and then, gracefully executed a pirouette and slid into the ditch on the left-hand side, facing the wrong way round. :)

Of course, apparently we're going to Omaha in April for the actual PSD conference, maybe we'll get some Flaming Death in then. I think that trip is gonna be me, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid, [livejournal.com profile] shahera5, and BG...

I love this icon so much.

Both, actually, now that you mention it.

Glad there was no flaming death! Though pickup truck ballet can be a bit un-nerving. Hope everyone was okay and am very glad after re-reading this that it was not in fact Semi Truck Ballet which is a whole nother land of choreography.

My favorite (‽‽) highway accident involved a Flying Semi-Truck. It was...impressive.

That wasn't the one that involved you coming off a mountain just as they closed it down for traffic, was it?

Eh, I was in control the whole time. Well, there were about 1.5 seconds where I started to slip a bit (just before the truck ballet began), but nothing my KC ice storm-honed mad driving skillz couldn't handle with ease. These Iowegians are great at snow, but ice? Not so much.

Nope, I should have specified "accident I wasn't involved in".

Northern Plains + Straight Line Winds + Empty Tractor-Trailer = Airborne Truck surfing into the ditch.
