It was an exciting weekend at EHQ, full of lingerie. Er... sorta. On the advice of [livejournal.com profile] opaljax, I went to a shop in Independence called Intimate Designs, which, as one might imagine from the name, sells bras and undies and suchlike. And lo, they did have bras in my size. And lo, I bought some. With panties to match. This has never happened before in my entire life. So one purpose of this post is to put forth to all the local folks that if you wear an unlikely bra size (and I know some/many of you do) that you should bring custom to these lovely folks, because they carry pretty much every possible size, and not just in Industrial Bras, but also in the sort of bra that would make a drag queen go "is this too much?". So that's good.

Following that experience, we arrived back at EHQ to discover that my order of little cherry dressish thing and little cherry stockings had arrived. Fashion shows ensued. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid approved. So we are all full up with the drag over here. As mentioned, the first person who acts like I'm a girl now that I have bras and panties that match and stockings and so on, I'm punching them in the kidneys. I consider this notice fair warning.

And then, oh yes, we ventured forth to look at some other people in their underwear, at the Hurly Burly burlesque show. We had some reservation about going, since we didn't know where it was going to be, but [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold talked us into it. It was, of course, fucking brilliant. If you didn't go, you have a chance to see some of the performers on Sunday, 1/20. I encourage you to take that chance if you can. [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold has a lovely review of the Hurly Burly show here, and I have very little to add. Except this: It is quickly becoming my opinion that burlesque is better when done by large women.

And that's my panty report for the week. ;)

Even for me? It's funny that I have a hard time finding bras for my rather diminutive size also.

It is entirely probable. If not, they do alterations.

... and the Panty Pyramid Scheme continues...

Yes, Honey, even for you. I take the Girl there all the time (you are bigger, yes you are) but mostly because she's so tiny around her chest area without the boobs. Other companies simply don't expect someone that small to have boobs.

That's it, I'm punching you in the kidneys. Of course, I'll have to do it while you're sleeping, because you're a freaking ninja, but still.

Does this mean we must duel to the death? To the pain? To the pants?

There you go, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid, your fiancée has committed you to a sparring match: Ninja on Ninja action, winner keeps his pants.

Also, seeing as how somehow she's the one doing most of the talking yet you're the one now committed to a fight, I think this proves she's the girl I first asserted that she was.

Hell, I figured I was already committed to the fight, and then you offered the other thing, and I thought that would be funny. I haven't committed anyone else to anything, merely expressed a preference.

And if you two want to take your pants off for each other, who am I to stop you?

[livejournal.com profile] triadruid is correct. I'm not a guy either. I'm genderqueer. I figure we can do drag just like anybody else.

But still using a gendered pronoun, I see. Or should the pronoun be taken as indication of sex, but not gender? (I'm not asking to be a jerk - I'm actually interested. This isn't a subject I know a lot about.)

He did, I didn't. :) When I refer to myself in the third person (which I try to avoid), I use male and female pronouns interchangeably. It's not an optimal solution, but I have yet to meet an optimal solution.

My next favorite concept is the Spivak pronouns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spivak_pronoun), which I also occasionally use for myself. In fact, I actually think this is a better plan than what I do, but I have been lazy about training myself to do it.

Did you notice if there were any decents corsets, teddies, etc for plus size women when you and K were at the lingerie shop?

I'll have to check the place out at some point in the future, as such places are so very few and far between for someone built like me.

*wiggles excitedly*

As for anyone wants to believe that one owning appropriate attire for use in "particular circumstances" indicates any sort of general adherence to any particular mode of behavior, they deserve exactly the rude awakening they will invariably bump into.

Such a moment would be, in fact, quite amusing to watch.

You should totally go. They apparently would like people to make appointments, since they're sort of a full-service shop. They will also do alterations in-house, which was helpful and useful for me, and might well be for you also.

Also, I have to totally agree. The phrase "It's a game, not a lifestyle" comes to mind.

I'll keep the appointment thing in mind, when it comes to it.

I'd like to peel about 20 pounds off of me and then go shopping as a reward for hard work accomplished.

In my insane worldview, you remind me of Rebis from Grant Morrison's run on "Doom Patrol", who attended to her/his own alchemical wedding, or perhaps "The Quiz" from The Brotherhood of Dada, who had "every superpower you haven't thought of yet". She could turn people into toilets filled with flowers, among other things.

The place you found lingerie... is it a good place for plus size women to buy things beyond panties/bras?

I need some corsets, teddy's, gowns... you get the idea.

From: [identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com
When I was in there, they had mostly bras and panties, a bunch of swimsuit separates, and a few pieces of very nice lingerie, which was mostly long-line bras, bustiers, and corset-type experiences. I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking for that sort of thing, though, since I was mostly there about bras. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid, who was sitting idly in the shop while I was trying on bras, may have a better picture of what they had along those lines.

Fortunately, I don't dance, so nobody's at risk there. Also, I have ingrained in my psyche that the taller person should lead, so if I should ever learn ballroom dancing, I should learn both halves, just in case I ever meet anyone shorter than myself.

Me too. I wonder if anyone locally carries that brand. I occasionally find that things are sized wrong online (or are sized according to the brand rather than the garment), but from those numbers, ain't gonna work.
