Holee Shit, Blade Runner

I just saw the director's cut re-release of Blade Runner. I had not seen the film before (although I did read the story last year...) and every time I say that to somebody, they go, "WTF? You haven't seen Blade Runner? How could that be true? It's so very you!"

And, now that I've seen it, I had to ask myself "Holy shit! How could I have not seen this movie?". I mean, really, I've spent 25 years of my life having not seen Blade Runner, and it is so very very fucking me. It expresses practically the whole of my aesthetic preferences. It asks Probing Questions About What It Means To Be Human. It is chock full of moral ambiguity. You don't really know what happens to the hero and the heroine at the end. And, a guy fucks a robot(!!).

Anyway, I feel enriched by the experience.

I dunno about that. Supposedly, most of his crew for Blade Runner wanted to draw and quarter his ass for being an insufferable prig. I figure that he's a talented filmmaker but still a human with all that it entails.

And I figure David Lynch also managed to pull a decent performance out of Sean Young. Just my opinion, though.

Fortunately for me, I get to enjoy the fruits of Scott's insufferable priggishness without needing to work with or talk to the man. :P

Sure, Young was decent in Dune, and I'm sure there must be at least one other film in which Hannah turns in a good performance -- but both of them together? In one film? Nothing short of a miracle, IMNSHO.

That's the type of thing one tends to hear. One tended to hear that sort of thing about Hitchcock, but it depended on who was doing the talking. Sort of like RenFaire rumours.

I don't mean to defend priggish/prickish/adjective of your choice behavior, but I'd prefer to judge the man on his works rather than on what is said of him in the rumour mill.
