1- you left out read a bit, fell asleep, gave up, so I just put didn't read series. Blah.
I usually can ignore things that bother me, and assume others can do the same. One of the reasons I like LJ is the diversity of ideas. However, if it's personally triggering I will drop someone. I have done that twice. It's not my job to change the person, but if they are saying/doing something that makes me incredibly uncomfortable I will simply go away.
One of the things that I spent New Year's Eve doing that I didn't have a chance to tell ya'll about was, in the midst of doing the Ebay thing, calling grmrefr and loraca to wish them a happy new year and petting the cat(who, strangely, wouldn't leave me alone for anything), I was being absolutely, utterly paranoid. I heard noises right outside the office window - right outside of where I was sitting - that I could have sworn was small pebbles or snow hitting it, re: someone trying to get my attention. But every time I looked out of the window, no one was there. I thought about opening the door to peek out, but then I thought, "No way. No fucking way, man." So I never did.
Yeah. Gotta stop being paranoid. Good thing I don't believe in that suspicion, I'm thinkin'.
I was really into the Dark Tower series in my teens, but he lost me by taking so damn long to finish, and I never read beyond book five.
So with you on the Dick Clark thing. Though this time along he looked like his body had died a couple years ago, but some inhuman intelligence was still controlling it. Spooky.
We had left over fireworks, but the kids forgot about them, and I wasn't going to remind them when is was 14 degrees and windy out. This has been one heck of a cold snap... I remember a few years when KC was pretty much stuck in Autumn until March. Last time I recall a winter like this was in the late 90's... where the chill of walking to one's car or into the office stuck in one's bones all damn day.
Granted, I have been laying in a heated waterbed since about the 21st. I get out for fighting, but not much else.
Also noteworthy, our tradition for years was to let the kids have a taste of champagne if they make it up until midnight. This year the kids voted to eschew Champagne in favor of Sake. (Last year's "Champagne" was tonic water and grape juice, they didn't want to do that again)
Turns out, not everything mentioned in Manga is tasty. I even warmed the Sake to enhance the 'flavor'. I had out three 1/4 full shot glasses for the kids, and by the time they went to bed, I had three 1/4 full shot glasses. Buddy actually declined even the 'taste'. He is our most recent DARE graduate, so he informed me of all the horrible things that could happen to him if he tried alcohol. Kudos. 8-)
