  • KKFI 90.1 has a rockabilly show on Friday afternoons, about the time I get off from work. This is absolutely ideal for my drive home. I've been making [livejournal.com profile] triadruid listen to it. I feel that this is only fair, as he often plays things in the car like Dio.

  • Ted's Montana Grill, while not local, scores big on most of my other scales for restaurant evaluation. Food is exceedingly tasty and pretty affordable, to-go boxes are paper and foil rather than styrofoam, they serve sweet potatoes, and they have very, very good chili. They do have a buffalo head on the wall, which is creepy, but, on the other hand, they do serve buffalo, which makes it somewhat less alarming.

Respectively:

-To promote group commuting harmony, I have about 11 hours of 80s music (in iTunes ready file formats!) coming your way this weekend via [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants. Use with caution - may cause spontaneous dancing.

-I bet that buffalo head didn't belong to a buffalo which was ever served as a meal in the restaurant, which may or may not mitigate the creepiness factor.

I looooooooovvveessss me some Ted's.

On top of the paper and foil to go boxes, they also only use paper straws.

All of their food is prepped in house, shipped in fresh-- the only freezer they have is a small box freezer, used to store the ice cream.

...And yes, their prices are very reasonable for what you get. The service, at least here by Legends, is pretty damn good too.

We didn't get any straws. :( That was the only off bit about the place, though. We were at the one on 135th Street, and had nothing to complain about as regards service.

I was thinking about styrofoam togo boxes the other day myself. I know it'd be more costly, but it'd be better all around if restaurants would pay up for plastic togo boxes that were at least reusable. I love those circular ones you sometimes get from chinese places. I'd even be willing to absorb the cost into the dining experience, myself.

Maybe I'll start being crazy and keep gladware in the car for takeout containers.

We probably should carry around our own to-go containers. We're still struggling to remember to carry around our own grocery bags, though. We are trying, though!

This was a sort of pie-pan experience with a cardboard lid. I think the pie-pan part might be recyclable. Not sure about the cardboard, since it had a metallic coating. I wonder what the cost of that is compared to foam?

Yes, I've gotten the best reusable plastic containers from Chinese and Indian restaurants!

Meanwhile, Skyline Chili is promoting "Buy a gift card, get a gift box free (while supplies last)". Said gift box is a styrofoam hamburger-size box with a bow on it.
