Car bill will run approximately $300. I think that puts me at about $1800 in repairs for the past 6 months, which is equivalent to a low-end car payment.

On the bright side, the guy at the shop thinks he knows someone who is looking to buy a small car for cheap. I told him to talk to this alleged guy and see what he'd give me for the car. I have to imagine that this will be a better deal than whatever they're willing to give me in trade at the dealership. In any case, it's nice to have another option.

EDIT: Bonus round. I can't get a loan for a vehicle. The PARADE OF FAIL continues.

Eh, I may be over stepping my boundaries and if so just let me know. Why can't you get a loan? My car payment is only $215/mo & my insurance only increased $10/mo, because my car is soo much safer than my older cars.

If it's a bad credit thing, spend the next month cleaning up your credit and saving. December is an awesome time to buy cars, especially the very very end as the dealers want them off the lot before New Years and most people are broke due to Christmas and not buying. Duking out two new cars over three years has taught me a lot if you need pointers.

I filed for bankruptcy in 2005 to get out from under the debts I ran up while trying to keep the Crap Ex Who Would Rather Leech Than Work in the lifestyle he preferred.

The cleaning up of credit at this point would require someone to actually give me credit, which no one will do. The cheerful woman from the bank suggested several way to acquire credit that I have already been turned down for in the past year since I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to buy a car before the bankruptcy came off my record, which I thought was supremely Not Fucking Helpful. I have savings. I can afford a car payment. I just can't afford the entire car at a go.

Can you get somebody to co-sign with you?

Dammit. Hit post too soon.

You know, I asked about that. They told me it would not be possible for them to loan me money even if I had someone co-sign the loan. Now, I have never heard of this before, so that was the really cranky-making part.

Yeah, screw the banks. I only get a loan through a bank if I'm buying from a person. Otherwise, dealership wants to make the sale so they will jump through hoops to get you financed.

I'll certainly try it. I can't keep driving the car I have, and walking to work would occupy more hours than I currently spend there, so a solution must be made manifest.

Whatever you do, don't stay at the dealership through the whole process. They try to wear you down that way. Just fill out the credit app and tell them to call you.
