Last night, [livejournal.com profile] triadruid, [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42 and I went to dinner and then stopped by Target on the way home to pick up much-needed liquids (those being red wine, windshield de-icer fluid, and Dran-o). While we were there, a side trip led me to discover that Target is carrying ruffly Victorian blouses now. I purchased one immediately. My Victorian Sex-Change Joker costume is complete (bwa ha ha). Well, almost. I still have to pick up some green hair dye. This will be a problem at the office, but for a week, they can bloody well deal.

I'm sort of unclear about what makes me think that "Victorian Sex-Change Joker" is even a valid costume concept. It just popped into my brain the other day and I glommed on to it. Hopefully green hair + Joker facepaint will be sufficient to identify the character without my having to explain it very often. It's not like it ever occurred in the comics, you know. (I think. I will admit to not having read very many Batman comics of the side-story variety... apparently there was a Viking Batman?)

Also, gaming tonight, hooray! [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I need to stop by the store and pick up "bad guys" -- house rules require all enemies to be represented on the map by candy. You kill it, you can eat it.

I read recently that Grant Morrison had planned to write a transvestite Joker into his brilliant Batman story Arkham Asylum, but DC nixed the idea. So if nothing else, you're in good company. =)

I've actually been reading some of the DC traditional-hero graphic novels lately. I've read several of the Batman and Superman Elseworlds stories, and I just requested 14(!) volumes of JLA via ILL, including Grant Morrison's complete run on that title.

Well there you are. If Grant Morrison wants to do it, it's probably worth doing. :)

We often get graphic novels and tradebooks from the library, but that's about the only way we read comics any more. I love the medium, but am often too impatient to wait a month between installations. So I'm really out of the story loops.

Yeah, me too. I haven't read a title regularly since '97 or thereabouts, and I was never that into it to begin with. I prefer to have the whole story at once.

Personally, I think as a costume concept it is made of awesome.

We have also heard of the concept of Dungeons and Flagons, in which enemies are represented by shots -- you kill it, you drink it. We think this is very funny, and have gone so far as to assign drinks to some monster types, but realize that people have to drive home after we play...

Unless you plan to have everyone crash overnight in one location. Or your shots are the size of thimbles.

We were already thinking of having a multi-day gaming marathon when we do the D&D cartoon game... (This is a terrible, horrible, no-good plan. I think I like it.)

This is a great idea, and I think people will understand it easily. The insane proliferation of alternate-world Batman stories will work in your favor; nobody else has read all of them either!

You're a very clever boy. I could just make up a storyline, and defy anyone to tell me it doesn't exist!

That's an awesome idea. I'm wanting to start my own campaign based in the WoW world of Kalimdor.

Really?

I am looking for people who are looking for a game.

Only caveat to that is they cannot have played WoW.

Be careful not to mix up the de-icer and Dran-o with the red wine. Especially after you've had some of the red wine. :P

We were thinking the cashier would probably think we were having a hella weird party... I know I always used to make up those kinds of stories about people's purchases when I worked as a cashier. It's not like you have anything better to do with your brain.

This is our D&D game, not so much open gaming. It probably wouldn't be very entertaining to those not playing...
