I don't usually get all excited about tourism. I like to go places, sure, and I like to see things I have never seen before, but I generally fail at the variety of awe that one is supposed to have when confronted with the world's wonders. Mostly all you get is a "Hey, that's neat!" and then I go on.

And then, there's The House on the Rock. I am in awe of this. I must go there. If I do not, I am certain to wither away and die.

Anybody want to road trip to Wisconsin? Seriously, I'm having a religious fit over here.

Possibly dumb question: Is this religious fit related to the place being featured in American Gods?

I think we should orginize an entire American Gods road trip, start in Lebennon, then to the Nu cafe in Cario, and end in the house of the rock.

Don't forget Rock City! And the farm in Virginia with the tree, if we can find it....

I actually didn't realize this was the place in American Gods until [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants mentioned it. I saw these pictures on [livejournal.com profile] anachrotech and began flipping out immediately. I actually didn't think that the place Gaiman talked about was a real thing at all. :)

You must go! Oddly enough I finally got around to resizing most the pix from my trip there years ago just last week & will get them online 'soon.' I didn't take nearly enough. Most of the excellent things I remember are not in the pictures. =(

When were you thinking of going? August is obviously unlikely, but perhaps later in the fall...

Dunno. Maybe in the Spring.

i could be down with a plan like that, and spring is far enough ahead to fit something crazy into my schedule =)

on the down side: your path to the House does not intersect with mine, which makes for a funny kind of road trip. but i've been feeling the urge to go to Wisconsin sometime...

OMG I'd love to... the room of infinity looks totally awesome... if I build a dream house, I totally want a perspective hallway...

Also, this is only about 3 hours from Coralville. We could totally daytrip it from visiting my family... unless we're going with a caravan of people, which might make things more complicated. :)

Spring Green is right around the corner as is New Glarus, Home of Spotted Cow beer, etc. Also, plenty of places to camp, if you're into that. However, it is a fairly pricey place to go, but if it is the main event of a trip - worth it!
