Weekend - started poorly, ended better

Since we moved into the house, we have not been able to wash clothes, since something in the washer/dryer seems to be leaking, and floods the utility room when we run it. This would not be so bad (the utility room has lino flooring and a big drain in the middle) but the water runs under the wall and into my room. This makes me cranky and makes Carey worry about mold. So Friday night, I discovered that I had no clean clothes at all. Not only that, but the other denizens of the house were also perilously close to nudity. So I gathered up everybody's laundry (which was an obscene amount of laundry), and headed out in search of a laundromat. Unfortunately, this was about 9:00 and apparently all laundromats in Kansas City close at 9:00. So I drove around for two hours looking for somewhere to wash my laundry. Of course, I have no clothes, so I'm wearing one of Carey's sarongs. So there I am, in the middle of the night, in a rainstorm, wandering around to places in the city I have never been before, while wearing no pants. Bleh. Somewhere in Grandview, I hydroplaned off the road and into a ditch. At that point, I decided to come home.

I ended up doing the laundry saturday morning, which meant that I missed auditions for Thrice Upon a Time (which is okay, but apparently I should have been there, because it was fun). This also meant that I had to spend Sat. evening running around trying to get stuff to finish the dog run, and to cook for ritual potluck sunday, and other things around the house, which caused me to miss chainwoman's birthday party :( Again, bleh.

Sunday was a bit more friendly. Caroline came over and brought me the audition book for TUaT so I could put together a mailing list, and told me all about the cast (who were apparently almost all just in a show entitled "Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens" - this could not be a bad sign). At some point we went to Gaia. David was playing Ra, the sun god, so this of course meant that he had to be covered in gold body paint, so that was fun. Ritual was fun - a little sacred theatre bit followed by food, dancing, singing, and general carrying on.

Then we went over to the Turner's and watched Labyrinth, which is one of my favorite films of all time. There may be another post forthcoming about the Sara/Jareth scene at the end and what it implies about the nature of power, but maybe not.

Anyway, everybody has clean clothes, the dog still has no run, and I have gold paint under my fingernails. And that concludes my weekend report :)

Washing machine - likely a slow leak where the hose connects to the machine. Teflon tape is a easy solution, but since I had to swap out washing machines a dozen or so times for Agememnon, I have gotten quite skilled at finding leaks and cutting them off (usually takes an extra 1/8 turn of the hose.

I hope no damage was done during the car surfing. You wild Floridian you. ;-)

I think the car is fine - I'm going to need to have the alignment looked at, but that was not really within best practices before.
I meant to mention in the post that David & I took the washing machine apart on Saturday afternoon, and we think that the drain hose is the problem- there was an odd connector on it that seemed to have come a bit loose. We think we fixed it, but haven't run a test load yet. If it turns out to still be leaking, we may move on to the tape method :)
(We are clever. We can fix anything if we don't totally break it first. We are gnomes.)

Eeek! I'm sorry to hear that all those sucky things happened. Hope this week goes good to make up for the bad weekend.
