Happy Lughnasadh, or Lammas, or Loaf-mass, or whatever festival you happen to celebrate today, if it happens that you happen to celebrate a festival today at all.

Personally, I'm celebrating a few things today. First is, of course, Lughnasadh. As it happens, I really dig Lugh. I had it in my head back at Yule that I would dedicate to Lugh this year. I no longer think that this is as appropriate as I did then, but I did make an oath that I would do some sort of work for/with/concerning Lugh this year, so here it is. I make an oath today that between now and Lughnasadh next, I will learn to do three things that I do not currently know how to do, in the honor of Lugh, Master of Skills. I will repeat this oath in speech at an appropriate gathering as soon as possible. One of the skills I would like to learn this year is sewing - I really should be able to put together something more complex than a T-tunic. All of the skills I learn should have an end result that is tangible. So that's that.

I'm also celebrating my independence day today - I've been single for just over a year. I realize that nobody is really fully independent, but at least I've moved from a model of co-dependence, which is ultimately unsatisfying to me, to a model of inter-dependence, which seems to be working well.

Thirdly, today shall be Laundry Day, which, since all of us at the house are out of clean clothes, constitutes a festival in and of itself. We seem to be in the process of ordering a majority of days at the house as festivals of some sort. Thus far, fridays have been designated festivals of pay: this friday is a greater paycheck festival, as two of us get paid, next friday is a lesser paycheck festival, as only one person gets paid. Also, thursday has been declared the official day of scientific inquiry, when we shall seek to answer really important questions like "Can I take that apart?", "What's in here?" and "What happens when we pour this on it?" - thursday was deemed to be the day of science primarily because friday is also the day of trash, and it may be important to dispose of experiments quickly.
Perhaps I'll put together an expanded festival calendar for the house. Anyway, happy festival day, whatever festival you're celebrating.

Enjoy your Lughnasadh. I don't know what's more exciting though, that or the fact that it's laundry day.

As for independance day, I'd never thought of celebrating that. Of course now that I think it's a good idea, I also realized I last became single on Valentine's Day, so I don't know if running around being happy I'm single on that day would be seen as what it is, or just another bitter pissy guy. Hehe. Either way, cheers to you. :)
