I'm way too tired to be clever today. Stayed up way too late last night reading a book called The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters, which is walking the thin line between being a truly effective evocation of Victorian creepiness and being simply bad writing turned up to 11.

No prob. I'm only in the second chapter. At first I thought it might be genre satire, but I abandoned that idea. So far the story has been interesting, but extracting the story from the layers of spun cruft and verbal frippery has been difficult. And I'm usually a fan of verbal frippery.

Also, I got it from the library on the strength of the title, but having now read also the summary on the flap, I think I might not have checked it out if I had read that one of the main characters was 'a brutal assassin with a poet's soul'.
