This steaming pile of trendy crap, a newsletter for the 'consciously chic' came to my email address at the church. How tacky. The email was so awful that I had to go to the site, to see if I had somehow misinterepreted the nature of the thing being advertised. Mais non. It didn't change its story even when I gave it the chance to.

I felt dirty. You probably will too. I mean, on the one hand, it's nice that being vaguely attentive to the environment and spirituality is popular, but on the other hand, if you were in any way "conscious", I think you'd realize that "chic" is pretty much a racket.

EDIT: Bonus points: there's a "consciousness quiz" on the site, which purports to test your knowledge on matters environmental and spiritual. If you score too highly, i.e. you know too many answers, the magazine offers to 'reel you in and infuse you with a sense of style'. Gak.

Ewwwwwwwwww!

I particularly enjoyed this line (yes, I clicked on some of the links. I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment): Thanks to my “expertise” in everything from Zen to sex...

"Expertise" is certainly the correct term for it, lady. *sigh*

Hell, I didn't get that far into it. I stopped at trendy eco-tourism resorts.

Also, are those men wearing dildos on their heads?

Ah. That's worse, actually. At 100x100, I couldn't tell. Trust 'Lex to be the research guy :)

I'm offended by the very existence of the demographic this site targets. When the revolution comes, those fuckers will be among the first up against the wall.

Don't hold back -- tell us how you really feel :-P
I have more than a glimmer of agreement with the sentiment, though.

Just because I get breast implant spam doesn't make me the breast implant demographic.

But it does put you on a list where someone, somewhere assumes that you will be shopping for them for you or a loved one. 8-) If we're going to be hunting down demographics, they're the ones with the lists. 8-)

Didn't even come to my address. It came to finance-at-gaiacommunity. Do you suppose that they also think that [livejournal.com profile] orcjohn is that demographic? Because, I mean ... dude.

White Apricot was created for you: the modern conscious consumer, who shops at upscale boutiques and has a designer shoe addiction, but pounds the pavement with a mantra repeating in your head.

Oh sweetie... that mantra just does NOT go with your pirate socks. It's after Labor Day you know. 8-)

The mantra that goes with pirate socks is more properly "ARR!".
