Hotel is booked. We're at the Hyatt, because they told us there were no rooms at the Marriott. Con is damned well nine months away and there are no rooms at the Marriott. This astonishes me. I guess we'll have to make the reservation for 2008 as we're leaving Atlanta at the end of 2007's event. I don't know.

This means that we spent a chunk of time working out the trip logistics last night between midnight and 1 a.m., which is always fun. It looks like our plan will be something like this: (presented mostly for the edification of [livejournal.com profile] wildnsquirrelly, [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42, [livejournal.com profile] niveus_tigris, and [livejournal.com profile] archway [and anybody else that was thinking of dragging along with us])
- Leave Thursday, Aug 30, in the very early morning.
- Get in to Atlanta Thursday night. Have dinner and check [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants into the art show.
- Sleep in a Motel 6 or some such thing Thursday night.
- Come in Friday morning and register for Con. Check into the Hyatt.
- Do Con.
- Leave from Atlanta Monday, early afternoon.
- Get back to KC at 0:Dark-Thirty.
- Go back to work Tuesday morning, like fools.

Also, I'm going to need to update my con icon.

The reason that the Marriott is "booked up" is that they like to hold a few floors out rather than actually sell out in advance. That way if they overbook (and they will), they have some wiggle room. And they can also charge outrageous prices for latecomers.

If I were you, I would confirm, re-confirm and confirm again those reservations at the Hyatt. They have a very, very bad tendency to "lose" reservations the day of Dragon*Con. Just an FYI and a bit of advice.

I appreciate the word. I've never stayed there, so am fairly clueless on their procedures. I will certainly try to stay on top of them though. Thanks!

That's excellent advice. I've gotten my confirmation number, will have an email confirmation and I believe a letter as well, so we should be "okay".

Call the hotel directly two weeks before con. And then again the week of. And, if you want to be extra special safe, the day before you leave. Because I have seen those monkeys fuck up what should be the relatively simple job of moving a stack of easles from one room to another. The stories I have heard in the past of their inability to hang on to reservations are truly mind boggling.

Frell.............

Need to get on about the reservation thing myself.

Yay! Are you guesting this year, or just partaking?
(Also, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants would like to talk to you about some sort of joint workshop...)

She's hot so she might get away with it, but I'm pretty sure they have a policy against joint workshops there.

I don't think I get it, either....

Think so?

Then show! Enjoy a bit of the East Coast! Bring the kidlet! I'm willing to bet that [livejournal.com profile] matchgirl42 and I could find a great room for the four of us that wouldn't be too torturous.

I know you're going to say "No" right away, but hey- give it time. You might even have a little fun while you're at it.

Have you seen the web site?

I would love to.
Funds are the issue, or believe me I'd have done it already.

You'd think.

Mom's $2000 behind on her house payments again. There goes my tax refund, which was supposed to go towards the credit card debt we incurred during the Ruby fiasco.

plus interest.

Great Gods Almighty. If only! We should start a petition, or a special interest group, or something. Well Endowed Ladies Request Arnold Vosloo at DragonCon.

I'm sorry. Let me go clean that up....

Does that mean you're getting a special rate at the Days Inn overflow hotel down the road??

Just to make sure I'll give 'em a call on Friday. That might be one of those nasty times when ye olde employee perks won't work.

If I don't get back to (one of) you about it please be so kind as to remind me to ensure that I don't forget.

I'll be the bouncy and excited one!

I just got a room at the Marriott via the website (D*C* code: DNPDNPA), Aug 31- Sept 4, same preferences as last year, going on the assumption that the Marriott will again host the Dealer's Hall this year (since the website is not yet updated).

I think I remember discussion over at [livejournal.com profile] dragoncon about this issue last year - I think it all depends on which day, and which time of day, you make your request.

Try again?

(And yeah, I felt like whipping out the Brendan Fraser icon. So sue me.)
