Welcome to the new year. There's lots of stuff to do.

The order of the week at EHQ is, well, order. It runs counter to our natural tendencies (like everything else in the universe we tend towards disorder over time, and we do it a lot faster than many things), but it has to be done from time to time. So far, we've purged the bookshelves of all duplicate and unwanted books, cleaned out the fridge (scary fridge!), gone through the spice and tea cabinets and gotten rid of anything that was no longer usable (one of the criteria often referenced was "Did this come from someone's apartment?"), and done some cleaning and filing in the office.

Still to do:
IMMEDIATELY, OR IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS
- Put together new bookcase
- Move books from Mount St. Fiction into new bookcase
- Write handout for prayer bead workshop for St. Louis Mysteries gathering
- Put away laundry
- Send remaining Winter Avarice gifts
- Buy printer paper!

MAYBE THIS WEEK
- Pack away Winter Bazaar and gift wrap stuff
- Schedule WB postmortem meeting
- Schedule planning meeting for Labyrinth ritual
- Scrub shower

MAYBE NEXT WEEK
- Write flowchart for Congregational Paganism forum
- Rip rest of new CDs to MP3
- Meet with orcjohn to do tax and pledge letters for 2006
- Finish updating paper files
- Pack jewelry studio to take to St. Louis

SOMETIME THIS MONTH
- Buy DragonCon badges
- Reserve room for DragonCon
- Do taxes

There was some lime juice from your apartment with some decidedly un-lime-juice-like chunks in it, so it went, and there were some suspicious frozen vegetables that went, but otherwise, the stuff from your place was not the issue. It's the stuff that got moved from our apartments, you know, the ones we had three to four years ago. That stuff had to go. :-P

Dood. Three or four years? Even I manage a vetting of the kitchen more often than that.

Eh, we actually go through the fridge every few months. But you get used to seeing things in there, particularly condiments, and you don't pay attention to them, because you think "Oh, that's [item], [item] doesn't go off, does it?". And then, the next thing you know, the same half-empty jar of mustard has been in there for three years, and it's growing a vibrant colony which will one day petition the governments of the world to be recognized as a nation.

Also, spices. This probably is the first time in the years that we've lived at EHQ that we've checked the spices, because they don't actually ever grow mold or anything, they just, at some point, stop tasting like anything. So they're less urgent, I suppose.

Same thing with the medicine cabinet. "Holy shit, you mean that antibiotic ointment expired in 1987? Dood."

Bonus points for that, because then you have to say things like, "How can antibiotic go off? What does that even mean??".

Also, with both the spice cabinet and the medicine cabinet, you can fall into this trap of "Oh, we *use* all that stuff, so we must be going through it quickly enough so that nothing in there could be expired...". Not so, I tell you!

Like the spices, it's in the effectiveness, I imagine. Still, it's funny contemplate whether the ointment might get, I don't know, germs or something.

I think the concept is the same in both cases, actually. Either efficacy goes off, or the "we use this all the time, so the ground cloves must be okay", when you're not realizing that there's 5 jars of varying vintage lurking in there...
