Even more disturbing when you reckon that the LN abbreaviation for "lane" is the same as my old middle initials. But the street signs with my current name are much funnier, I think.
The problem with feeding the cats to drive off the chickens is that a fed cat is not a hunting cat, and so isn't going to scare off the chickens (and let's face it, given relative size a dog would be a better choice than a cat for that anyway). Now if you had a bunch of hungry dogs roaming the streets, you might make a dent in the poultry population.
We did think the Via Crapolla was a much funnier pic, just saw the other thing and thought, "Hey! zylch!" You know, like you do.
Also, the purpose of the cats was not so much to eat the chickens as to give the impression that they might, at any time, eat the chickens. And dogs would be better, but the island doesn't seem to have much of a stray dog problem.
