I can help with painting, ripping out carpet, fixing sheetrock, and carting stuff away (Have big truck) but you'll need a place to cart junk and carpet off to. I can't help you there.

Last time we had carpet (and what a story that was), we just waited for bulky pickup day and let the trash guys take it. I'm not sure of the fate of the junk.

With regard to the sheetrock and carpet, though, I do appreciate the offer. What can we bribe you with?

My days off are a little wonky. I work this weekend but have a 4 day weekend next weekend. I usually get off of work at 4:30 PM though and could possiblly come over after work a few times.

I think I have all the plaster,sanding stuff, sheetrock, and tools I would need for the sheetrock. What are we talking here; holes patched or whole sections of rock that need replaced?

We're not going to be ready to do anything down there probably for at least a month, but would be glad of your assistance when we do.

With regard to the sheetrock, we're probably looking at replacing a whole section. We have a crack in the outer wall where water was coming in, which we have the means to patch, but unfortunately, we'll have to remove at least a 2'x4' section in order to patch it. At that, I thought we might as well go ahead and replace the whole sheet, because a) a lot of it's been wet and b) sheetrock is pretty cheap.

You are right about replacing the entire sheet. Also it will look better after you fininsh if you replace it. Just remember to fix/seal the cracks in the wall that caused it in the first place (as if I needed to say that).

Oh yeah. Fixing the crack is part of Step Three. Other thing is that there's a layer of insulation between the outer wall and the sheetrock, that will probably need replaced in that section. Not that I really want to eff with all that, but it's probably there for a reason, you know?

*Nods* Yep! Those jobs (fixing water damage) always get more involved then plannd for at the begining. Went to fix the floor in my upstairs bathroom. Next thing you know I'm laying down a brand spanking new sub floor. There was dry rot all the way down to the floor joices. *shrug*

May you all have more luck then that.
