Love was such an easy game to play, now I need a place to hide away, oh.... wait. That's not right, is it?

Yesterday, I learned some things. One was that a significant portion of my active readership is older than me. I did not know that. I'm pretty sure it means something, but I don't know what.

Another was that a significant portion of same active readership did not know what a cover song was. For you guys, a cover song is one that is re-recorded by an artist who was not the original artist. So, All Along the Watchtower (for example), as recorded by Jimi Hendrix is a cover version of the original, by Bob Dylan. And so on. All caught up now? :)

Today: [livejournal.com profile] triadruid says I am owly. By this, he means (I know, because I asked) that I'm mostly staring and snapping at things. I'm okay with that -- in my world, staring and snapping at things indicates being on top of my game.

Also, later, probably a [livejournal.com profile] thejobfairy update.

EDIT: Also also, taking meds = being alert and hungry. Not taking meds = being fuzzy-headed and uninterested in food. One would think that as clever a being as I would be able to remember that on a daily basis, and perhaps, take its fucking meds.

I think the reason your readers are older is,; you do have a certain maturity, well beyonf your years, I remember , a conversation we had in the car one saturday, after RFB. It just confirmed for me that you are an old sould, who has gathered a great deal of wisom through the ages.

I was afraid that might be it. The other week after Gaia, we went to CiCi's or some similar establishment, and I was talking about the custom of wearing one's pants midway down one's ass (as several guys in the pizza shop were doing) and how I didn't like that. [livejournal.com profile] triadruid informed me that this was because I had gotten old. So I told him, no that wasn't it, I had always not liked that particular thing, and he was like, "And the obvious conclusion is?". So yeah. Always been old, apparently.

For my part, I was a little shocked at how many of the people I see on a regular basis I could have ostensibly given birth to. Actually, what I first notice is how very much not too much older than [livejournal.com profile] twixxa they are, and then extrapolate from there.

I'll be ducking after I'm saying this:

I hate to tell you this, but you and my mother do share a birth year.

It's okay, really. I don't mind because I suspect I'm very much not like her.

This was the conversation in the kitchen last night:

Me: Brandy is only five years older than Rachel, and Devin's only eight.

David: So had we met a few years earlier, they could be our children.

Me: Yeah.

David: Wow.

It got less articulate from there, pretty much devolving into monosyllabic grunts.

I have a lot of moments like that anymore. One of the crowning ones was after interviewing this new person in the lab. She is of the age that I could have given birth to her. Erk!

You're hardly anything like her. Except you're both tough broads. Other than that, nothing at all.

If it's any consolation, [livejournal.com profile] saffronhare and I had a conversation once in which we realized that if one were to stretch the biological possibilities to their limits, technically she is old enough to be my mother and I am old enough to be [livejournal.com profile] princessboredom's (and so, by extension, [livejournal.com profile] dragon_sword's)

And for other weirdness, tho' Kryss and I are fourteen years apart.... Our mothers share a birth year.

Heh, her family spawned early, my family spawned late, we had stories to tell.

Wow. I just heard that song play in the Caley Inn, here in Ullapool, Scotland. o.O

Anyway, this is off-topic, but I wanted you to know that I'm still planning to re-make your avatar using a barn owl. I'm just very, very sluggish with regard to some things.

Yay barn owl! Thank you -- No rush, you know.

Also, how is Scotland?

And less like this (which I think is what you aspire to):

Yes, yes!! And All Along the Watchtower has also been covered (and I do know what a cover song is) by the Dave Matthews Band. I had to get that in there. Squeeee!

A significant portion of my friends, and by significant I mean all but one that I can think of, is younger than me. That either means that I am a late bloomer, youthful, or just plain immature :)

either

I knew what a cover was, but I had no clue of either the group or the song you mentioned. So, I decided to stay silent and be thought a fool rather than speak up and remove all doubt...

Nah, wasn't you I was talking about -- several people answered the "got any covers you think I'd like" question with "What is a cover song?". I figured since I got that more than once, I'd address it. :)

Also, unrelated, is it possible that you and Princess Punk could sneak my family into the Ren Faire on Sunday?

I pity the small furry mammals that cross your path!

I wasn't sure it was worth mentioning Limp's Faith cover. Old as it is, it still cracks me up.

Bizkid lost all rights to do covers when they mangled the everloving fuck out of Behind Blue Eyes. I mean, seriously; they took out "shove your fingers down my throat" in favor of a Speak-n-Spell????

Couldn't agree with you more on that one. I *much* prefer the original. Their Faith was done *loads* earlier and isn't too bad, imho.

After they did Behind Blue Eyes I really tuned them out though. Thanks Fred, don't call me- I'll call you.

I've noted that a significant portion of the friends I've accumulated through LiveJournal are older, or younger than me. And another significant portion just happens to be just about my own age group!

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Thbbbptt.

Me, too. I'd say a good 2/3rds of my friends, IRL and online, are older than I am. L asked me the other day how old I was, and I said 29, she was all like, "You're all 29? 29??!!??!!." Heh.
