Ah, late August. The birthday has passed, moving us along to the next major festival of the year: Packing for DragonCon. Which brings us again to the immortal question, upon which the fate of at least the trip, and possibly the universe, depends:
[Poll #804594]

You've got the Minivan Galactica this year. If all else fails, just strap something to the roof rack to make more space. Also -- many things can be acquired in Atlanta if you discover you need them after all. Goat pants, not so much. Like gold lame Speedos and red ski caps, those sorts of things don't just fall from the sky. Or something.

At least not in Atlanta. But there was that time in San Francisco....

Dude. Roof rack.

I had not even considered the potential for bringing utterly ridiculous shit afforded by the roof rack.

The mind reels.

1. Nothing's worse than wearing goat pants to a party, and finding out that another girl is wearing them too, and she looks better in them than you do.
2. Atlanta. Summer. Padded polyester fur.
3. We've planned all the costumes we'll be wearing -- who would wear them, and when?

On the other hand,

1. Goat pants.
2. Whether we wear them or no, they'll be good to sleep on in the car during the million-year drive there and back again.

1. Are you saying I don't look good in goat pants?
2. Yeah, that is a problem.
3. I was actually thinking that if we brought them, [livejournal.com profile] wildnsquirrelly would wear them at some point.

and

1. That's what I'm talking about!
2. There is that, too.

No, I'm just thinking of the really hot satyr chick we saw last year. She looked better than *anyone* in goat pants, with the exception of Alan Cumming.

The girl at Islands of Adventure, or the one at DragonCon last year? Because that is arguably true about both of them.

I really need to see Amy in goat pants, with her horns on. (She has this awesome set of satyr horns and the cord for them totally blends into her hair.)

The more important question is...

That could be critical question #2, I think.

I have to defend my evidently unpopular decision. There is the fact that you will come home with waaaay more stuff than you left with. Look at Heartland for example. I could hardly fit anything in my car, and I even ate most of the food. I didn't even buy that much, and still came home with much more than I left with. You must leave room for stuff. Oh, and on the other hand: Goat pants!!

That would be a valid consideration, except that by the time we spend the money to get there, and pay for food and hotel, we're broke, so purchases are really quite few. I think last year the only thing I came home with that I didn't bring was a pair of wings for Bailey and an Icehouse set.

There's also the fact, storage-wise, that you will be travelling there with a considerable number of largish, bulky paintings and returning home with none of them.

I'm just saying.

Doesn't help on the way there, storage-wise, but that would only mean crowding one way. That's worth something.

Now why does that idea launch me into a very slow, deliberate, sinister laugh?

Yes. Yes E3, bring your Goat Pants
