This morning, as [livejournal.com profile] triadruid and I were leaving the neighborhood, we encountered a squirrel in the middle of the road. Unlike most squirrels, which recognize the threat level of a large motor vehicle moving towards them, and perhaps evaluate the potential damage tires could do to their delicate furry little bodies, this squirrel stood his ground. He stared Asmodeus down like this was no problem at all.

Is it squirrel suicide season already? It seems too early -- the early morning chill that seems to make the little buggers decide that they haven't stored enough nuts and that there's no point in going on has not yet set in. And yet. Squirrels, I ventured, are emo rodents. One day, it's all "Look at the fresh new world we live in -- I shall do unlikely things for the joy of this unlikely day!," and the next, it's more like "Oh, the love has abandoned me, and I cannot face another winter!". And then, you're picking them off your tires.

[livejournal.com profile] triadruid disagreed. Some squirrels, he said, are batshit crazy enthusiastic, and some are suicidal, but they're not the same squirrels. It would be hard to tell, though, he admitted, because all squirrels look alike.

"Not the ones that live near [livejournal.com profile] ursulav," I said. He informed me that this is because [livejournal.com profile] ursulav is mutagenic. She paints, and it warps things. After all, have we ever seen pictures of James? No, we had not, I allowed. We don't even know what James *is*, he said. I had always assumed he was a human, being as they were married, and I'm pretty sure in no state in the union do they let you marry someone who isn't a human. "Oh sure," he says, "He was human *then*."

This brought up new and horrible possibilities: "Do you suppose [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants is mutagenic?" No, he assured me. She paints in a realistic style. She stopped things from changing, slowed them down. Thank the gods, I thought. As rapidly as things change now, just think how they would be if we didn't have her powers on our side! No one can live at that speed.

Have you met Feathery?

As it so happens, I see her on a fairly regular basis...which has lead me to believe that she actually does say some of the 'Funniest Shit Evar'. She's also great fun at parties. Seriously.

I do admit to secretly aspiring to be as chaotically funny as she is...someday.
Except now it's not a secret anymore. Damn. I'll have to think of something else.

Hey, everybody's got to be good at something, right?

Also, unrelated, I had the joy of pawing through the Sandcrawler when I got home last night and am much delighted. In return, we have enriched you with about 7 gig of new stuff. Was uncertain whether or not you wanted that folded in with the existing stuff, so just dropped it all in the New Music folder.

See...you can follow the rules!

I understand that is optional, but still. Yes, that's where I wanted the new music to go, hence having a 'New As Of...' folder so that people can quickly look over what's new instead of having to go back through all 100+G of stuff. At the end of the month, I'll roll that list into an Excel file so that it can be accessed easily.

What I need now is an easy way to make a file that shows all of what's in there right now. Some kind of DB converter that will look through the main folder and list contents into a table. Or something. Which I have no idea how to do.

This is why I don't have a Computer Geek Card. Not geeky enough, I guess.

Of course I *can* follow the rules. Blindly ignoring the rules/doing the opposite is as restrictive as blindly following them. Besides which, this is a hospitality issue. I will almost always err on the side of compliance with hospitality.

Also, I'm sure what you're looking for here can be done... but already it's organized alphabetically, so is pretty easy to figure out how to look at it.
