Why Cedar City, Utah is cool
Jun. 25th, 2003 02:33 pmNo, I've never been there either. But they have this Viking heritage festival. Which is good, in and of itself - I'm all about festivals, but the deal here is that there's not a speck of viking heritage in the whole of Cedar City. The mayor and some of the other high mucky mucks at city hall made up an archaeological find and some artifacts and wrote a story to go along with them, and they based the festival off of that. Not that they're trying to decieve anybody - anyone and everyone who speaks to the mayor about it will apparently be told that the whole thing was made up just to have an excuse for a festival, so people would come to the town. I think that's utterly brilliant. Three cheers for Cedar City and its imaginary vikings.
Here's the whole story.
